Buying a 6.0l Diesel??? HELP

I have the chance and have to decide tomorrow...

F350 Supercab 4x4 with a 6.0L

It has 86k...

Is the 6.0L a good engine, or should I stick with GAS???
I live in NH, and people say they will not start in cold weather...
(If I plug it in will I be fine?)

How is the milage, what should I look for and what are the common problems?

I know nothing about diesels, so help me please...

What year is the truck? 6.0 have a bad rep they are a good motor they just like to be serviced on time. Keep up with the maintance and you probably won't have any problems. Get an oasis report before buying. 86k on a diesel is really not even broke in yet. Run 5w40 synthic oil that will help with the cold starts. And plug it in if it is going to be 30 or below.

You came to the right place. There's lots of great info here. The only thing I can add to the texans & bismic is if you go for it, see if you can pick up some extra warranty on the powertrain. If there are some problems that come up, you might run out of warranty before it happens. If the dealer is confident with the truck, they'll only be too happy to sell the extra warrany. You can also blend it into the financing. Good luck

+1 on what the others have said. I have started mine with no problems at close to zero degrees outside. It'll crank a little slower but it will start. Plug it in though like was said above, if it's going to be below 30 outside. I didn't have a way to plug mine in at the time (traveling) but it did fine. I get 15-17 in mixed driving and have seen as high as 21.8 MPG.

Whether you stick with gas or not is going to depend on your intended use for the truck and personal preference. The maintenance costs with the diesel are higher and the fuel costs are on the rise again around here. So, consider what you'll be doing with the truck and go from there.

I'm new to the 6.0 psd world as well, and so far I love the truck and the engine. We just had our first real winter storm of the season out here in Colorado and the truck never missed a beat. When it was pluged in and snowing with the wind blowing at about 15 degrees the truck stared with no issues and even when it was 20 and not pluged in it started right up. I would have to say get an oasis report if you can. I was completely oblivious to any of the information you will find on this site when I bough mine. I think I might be a little lucky I found a good one.
