How hard would this swap be? I have a 96 ranger 4x4 with the 5spd behind a tiring OHV 4.0. Would also like to swap in the SOHC 5speed. Anyone done this swap before? I've tried to read into it, but all I could really find is some pics of it sitting in the earlier ranger engine bay. I also read it was only a few wires to swap in and it'll run on the old ECU, but couldn't find much more then that. Anyone got some better info for me?
Also I was wondering if putting the M90 supercharger on it would be too much for the OHV ecu. Thanks guys

i would probably start by getting the wiring and ECU from an exlporer with the 4.0 sohc. im not sure if any came out with 5 speeds but if so youve got it made.
I've never done a swap myself but I have worked on and driven the OHV and SOHC 4.0ls a lot. You will be happy with the performance increase of the SOHC, its a big difference. I'm pretty shure the 4.0l SOHC/5Spd manual combo was never put in the Explorer but it was put in the Ranger.
