Ford premium sound amp wattage?

Guys,

I'm getting ready to redo the sound system in my 97 Expy and because I have the premium sound with the factory four channel amp behind the dash, I'm curious as to how much power it provides the speakers with. I'm trying to get an idea if I should keep the amp or go through the process of installing an aftermarket amp and rewiring all the speakers in the doors. Amp will have its own mono block amp to power that.

Thanks,
Tom

Chunk it......The amp has high level inputs and if you wire most newer head units into that amp, then the input wattage would be higher than the output wattage of the factory voltage. I have a pioneer 50X4 head unit and the built in amp on that is much better than the factory amp that came from ford.....Hope this helps some.

BTW if you want to intall that unit you can get the wiring harness with the amp bypass cable at Best Buy or from any Metra dealer for around $21.00.

Comes with all three cables that you need.

As a matter of fact. I am trying to find out where the factory amp is hidden on a 1995 F350 dually now.

If anyone has an idea, please let me know. I have looked under the pass side kick panel and up under the dash.....lol....I don't know where Ford hid it.

Thank you very much. Another member actually brought the bypass cable up and it looks like if I do an audo overhaul on my Expy, I will get a new amp for the speakers and sub.

Appreciate it!
