Got some Bilsteins to install. Lower bolts on both front shocks are seized. The nuts will turn right off, but the bolts have fused to the steel inner sleeve within the bushing of the end of the shock. I can turn the bolt head, but I feel it "springing" back, meaning the rubber bushing is twisting.
Been anointing it with PB-Blaster, and took a few light smacks (with the nut in place) at the end of the bolt. But I'm probably looking at cutting the head off the bolt and getting a fresh bolt & nut. Question is - what size? It's an odd combination, head-wise. Bolt head is 22mm, nut is 18. And they're most decidedly metric. Anybody know what would be a good size replacement? Grade 5 (or its metric equivalent), I presume?
Disregard. It's done. 3-lb sledge. I just had to be gentle, keep the nut on for a while and make sure I hadn't damaged the end of the bolt. Used a punch when the end of the bolt got into the bracket. Four new shocks are in.
