time between epoxy primer and high build to final painting

So its winter time again and through the summer I have finished the metal work on all the front pieces of my '52. I put on epoxy primer and now its too cold to paint high build. Can I sand the epoxy and set it aside for the winter? If so, can I wait until the spring to paint the high build, sealer and final next year? Do I need to do anything special while I wait for the good weather to return?
Thanks in advance.

Yes you can. But I would wait to sand the epoxy till you're ready to spray high build. Just scuff, clean, and spray.

+1 here.
When you do sand, just make sure you scuff lightly - green Scotchpad or 320 dry.

BarryMc is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
For better results I would reapply a coat of epoxy when I got ready to spray, I use Southern Polyurethane brand of epoxy and they recommend to scuff with red scotchbrite pad after 7 days and reapply epoxy. But I would check with the manufacturer of your epoxy to be sure

Yep, BarryMc is right, most manufacturers suggest sanding and putting on another coat of epoxy first. Good catch.

I use House of Kolor and they make no such requirements. As long as the surface has been sanded at some point as wiped with a post-sanding cleaner, you can go right on to sealer and paint, even if it's sat for months. It's not like you're geting a chemical bond anyway, like when you shoot clear over base.

Yeah, I guess they just don't want you to go right to paint. They want a base down first. HOK wants a sealer, PPG wants you to recoat with an additional coat of DP, which is basically like sealing it. You're right though, at that point its all mechanical adhesion.

I'll bet they want yhou to re-PAY - I mean re-apply!!

No scientific need to recoat with epoxy - it binds the metal to the 2K...if the 2K is sprayed within the recoat window. If it's after that and you have to sand, why use more epoxy? Doesn't make sense.

2k binds to metal like glue. The epoxy provides corrosion protection.
