maybe give the candy to the firefighters and sheriffs directly? just my 2 cents, but it would seem to me that a person like you has there presence appreciated anyway.
Michelle, I thought about this. I'm sure you're like me and your parents would have only let you have one piece of candy if any. Then instructed you that you only take one, so everybody else can have one too. The same went at mealtime. Everyone had to take a serving before you were allowed a second helping.
But also remember there was always another crabby old lady present in the absence of our parents. Whether she was the librarian, the attendance office secretary of the lunch monitor. She was always there with her arms folded or her hands on her hips ready to catch you in the act. She was never shy and always ready to correct your manners or language. Always ready to instruct you how a proper lady or gentleman conduct's themselves in polite society in the event you slipped up and forgot or did not have the proper upbringining at home. She never accepted your excuses and seemed to see right through you and your flimsy BS motivation. You never dared challenge this woman because you knew that she represented the pure truth and that her unblinking gaze could turn you into a pillar of salt if she willed it.
Michelle, I'm not calling you a crabby old lady or anything... but I think maybe it's time you filled those shoes.

The Firefighters are in and out all day and all night. They usually aren't all there at one time either unless there is some sort of special function going on, so it's difficult to figure out when certain people are going to be there. I take the bucket into the kitchen where they usually all sit to wait for calls, watch TV, eat, chat, study, make out reports, etc. The bucket sits on the table for all to share whenever they are there.
I take the Sheriff's bucket to their station and it is put in an area to where the general public can't reach it. There are three shifts, so I try to bring the stuff in at different times so each shift will have a better selection from time to time. Seeing their kids there is a rarity. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well, I am old, and I can get crabby at times... but I swore I would never become one of THOSE crabby old ladies.

i would be asking why there are kids around a fire station or cop shop... i mean really... what happens if there is a drug bust or shooting or bank robery... and every sheriff has to leave the office to go and get the bad guy... or what if there is a major fire, yadda yadda yadda...
anyways, i would just start bringing in things they cant stuff in their pockets.. like even going and buying one of those boxes of brownies that you just toss some egg and oil and milk into and toss it in the oven... or maybe a already baked cake or something...
im sure they enjoy will enjoy what ever you bring them.. i will go sit with our tribal cop.. and the local county sheriff and have coffee with them in the morning... they really enjoy it when i will bring a breakfast sandwhich or a couple of helpings of bisquits and gravy... even though half the time, its nothing more then from the hot case from our gas station... and i know they really appriciate a bit of food any time durring the day... the sheriff that i bring food to has arrested me for some little things in my past and we dont have a mc dolands or jail around here... its a 60 mile drive to the closest jail... then he has to spend a little bit of time in the jail booking me in... then drive back... and fill out more paper work... then he cant go get any thing for lunch except for some fried foods from the gas station... so a little bit of an extra breakfast... keeps those long times with out food... a little bit more bareable... even if he arrests me latter that day LOL...

I am really just a visitor at these places. I've only seen kids at the Sheriff's one time because there was no other choice it seemed, and I'm sure if everyone was called away that the secretary would have watched them. As far as the Firefighters.... I could imagine that one of the parents would have stayed with them, or the oldest kid would have taken on the chore. I'm sure that all of this was thought out beforehand. Thanks for your input.
