Well I have been tossing around the idea of a front and rear winch style bumpers in my head lately, I really like the way they look on newer trucks but im not really sure about on our oldies. So is there anyone out there that has any pictures of them on our trucks, has made one or has thought about them?

I found a one company, iron bull bumpers, that makes one but I dont really like it haha


Heres more of what I was thinking but its for a 87-96

 

I looked at most of their bumpers and I like the look of a lot of them, just not the one for our trucks. The bottom pic there is much better looking. I don't like the slight curve on the early model, I'd rather have straight lines.

 

It looks like a well made/designed bumper, but, I.M.O. the style is too modern looking for a dentside truck, like they adapted one from a late model.

 

I am going to buy some steel and attempt one this winter, I have a 12k Mile Marker sitting in the box in the garage, just patiently waiting... I have looked also, I think I remember a couple a Jeff's Bronco,, but I either did't like the price or the style, I don't member. Mine will be an experiment, if I don't like it,,,, well it's just steel and time right?!!

 

the bumper shown in the pic is on my 79 f250 but it originally came off of my 76 f250 ..a warn bumper w/ a warn winch

 

I had a Warn bumper on my 90 Bronco and I thought it was a bit flimsy. I may fab up my own as well. I want the D-ring tabs to go through the bumper and attach to the frame. Many of the good looking bumpers are not that strong and if you do any winching from slight angles, you can pull the bumper apart. I've heard stories of the Warn and Road Armor bumpers pulling themselves to pieces in odd angle winching. The Bronco Graveyard bumper looks nice but also looked kind of thin and no D-ring tabs that I could see. I wonder if the Iron Bull tabs are just welded to the outside of if they go all the way through.

 

that may have been true if you were to have used the original mounting brackets, I upgraded to 1/4"x 4" angle iron, in addition to replacing the horizontal tubes w/ 1/4" pipe and welding the brush bar as one unit..... since 1983 and after countless uses at many different angles and heavier vehicles I have not had any problems, but like you said it requires some re-inforcement

 

My Warn Bronco setup was stock out of the box and even though I used it a lot, I never had a problem. However, I also never winched at an angle and all my pulls were straight out. I have a bumper on my 76 Blazer from a company that is now defunct called 4x4 Iron. It is too bad they went out of business because their bumpers are excellent. Here is a pic of my 4x4 Iron bumper with the tabs that go through to the back and attach to the frame. It is also very heavy and completely boxed. I may just duplicate this one for my F150.

 

I made mine. It has a lot of drop,real cow catcher but Pa. insist upon it.

 

The pics were just for a style representation of what I'm thinking, if I go this route Id be making it. Instead of making it stick out so much and having the winch in the bumper Id incorporate a receiver hitch so the winch could be used front or back and d-ring tabs would be attached to the frame along with the receiver hitch. I've been thinking of getting some foam core board and messing around with it until I come up with something I like before I go out and buy steel, that way I can actually mount it to the truck, step back and get an overall look. Plus I'd have all my templates.

Yep, looking at this style, simple, strong, smooth and effective. Of course, I tend to OVERbuild things,,, strength is good in a winch bumper.

 

I've always been a fan of the Proto Fab bumpers. Reasonably priced, and look pretty strong / good.
