That does suck and fortunately we do not have any 5" LDH. If we need to lay in we run 2 - 3" lines and then bring them into a siamese at the steamer.

All of the mutual aid departments around us have 5" LDH and they are usually supplying us if we are at a structure fire. Then again, we can draft with 1500 gpm and run 2 - 3" into a 2- 2 1/2" to 5" adaptor.

Well as you can tell I am home from the banquet. The food was great, had the evening to spend with friends and also had a chance to unwind with them also. The bar had Sammy's Oktoberfest on tap

oh. thats interesting, Ive never heard of that before. we were using 4", but we switched to 5" a couple years ago. when we were doing the test, we ran 3" pony line from the hydrant to the rig.

Yeah that is the way that we do it. 5" LDH is STUPID expensive. Something around I believe $800 to $1000 per 50'. It was bad enough that I had to replace 2 - 50' lengths of 1 3/4" which ran around $200 per length

ouch. luckily all our 5" on these rigs passed. one rig's hosebed was specd just right to fit 4", but when we went to 5", we had to take all the 2 1/2" and a divider out of the hosebed just to fit the 5". and everything in the fire service is expensive lol

Yeah it is. An inexpensive set of turnout gear (coat, bunkers, boots, helmet, gloves, hood and suspenders) runs right aroun $1700 - 1800 per set. Our gear is black and once it is heat stressed it will turn red. Any spot of red, it needs to be replaced because it does not meet NFPA or OSHA requirements. A cheap rescue on a two door commercial International chassis..... $225 - 250K. A cheap pumper.... $180k and this does not include any equipment.

You'll be about an hour from me. The weather is looking to be nice, so it should be a good day to catch some windshield time.

Most of the departments in our area run 4", mine included. There are 2 that we work with that run 5". Oh, and you're right.; if it has Fire or Rescue in the name somewhere, they get to charge you a minimum of 3 times what the item is really worth.

You mean to tell me that your hose testing company didn't repack it for you? That does suck. The company that we use takes it all off and repacks it when they are done. The hose beds look immaculate when they're done.
