Well its been a while since Ive been on alot. I guess that my truck must be running all right so I have not needed help fixing it... Plus Ive been with out a good internet for a while.. Any how I just wanted to thank all the folks who post and help people out...
The other day I was helping a friend change his Glow plugs when the dreaded happened! On broke off and was stuck......
Well quick trip to the computer and searching some posts. hope was restored...We soaked it for about 18 hrs in some liquid wrench, grabbed on to the bit of the electrode that was sticking out with a set of needle nose vice-grips. wiggled it some tap the but of the vice grips with hammer and the thing pulled right out..
could not have done any of it with out all the info I've gotten here.. thanks a bunch J

good going, I feared the same when I did mine. I got all of mine out and put anti-seize on them before putting them back. I hope next time will also go good.

oldbird, I don't know if anti-seize on the threads will help. It's my understanding that it is the shaft towards the tip of the GP that swells larger than the hole and that is the part that gets stuck. Correct me if I'm wrong.
But I am with you, if it has threads..........it gets anti-seize.

on My friends truck, the outer shaft of the plug a came out just fine. but the eletrode core was seized near the tip.. it looked like mostly a slag like carbon build up on the plug. I'm not sure that anti seize would work since the part that was stuck is also the part that gets heated... just as a note the plug was one of the ones that had not been working.. so. it might be that since the plug was bad it collected carbon build up form the piston fireing just a thought.. I think the trick for getting it out was patience and a good brand new set of vice grips so the teeth on the grips were really sharp.
In the military when the GP broke off (not dropped but stuck in the hole) in the HMMWV's we would just crank it and 9 times out of 10 that baby went airborne ALL THE WAY! Would anyone recommend doing that in a pinch?

Stories have been told of this technique being used successfully in the past for many cases. It has been suggested to lay a large piece of carpet over that bank of the engine because if and when it decides to come out it is just like a bullet and if anyone is standing in it's path..........Oh well.......

i have tried that several times on hmmwv's with no luck and tried it on a buddies powerstroke with no luck as well. i think its myth unless its not swollen. some of the hummers we actually fired up and held the throttle wide open trying to get it to blow out with no luck
I thought for sure I could it on u-boob but there is nothing there. I have seen them shoot out before. more often then not. I have a buddy that is a 63B30 down range in A-stan. I will ask him if he will video tape one if he can (you're spose to do it that way). Maybe he will do some "field expedient" training and tape it.
