I just bought a 2009 FX4 (4 weeks ago). It is oxford white with a sterling gray accent at the bottom. I like the sterling gray accent, but it looks bad with the black grill. Any chance there is someone out there with a white f-150 looking for a black grill to match an aftermarket bumper and willing to trade their chrome grill? If not, any recommendations on what might be a reasonably-priced method of purchasing a replacement?
IMO, if you have the lower gray two-tone, I think a black or gray grille actually looks good with it, not chrome. I would actually consider painting your inner bar grille either gray, or white would look nice too.
there's not many other replacements out there yet except for billet grilles.
the 2010 FX2 will be out soon and it will have a gray billet-style grille, gray headlights and gray tail lights. I think those 3 items would look awesome on a FX4 with the same lower two-tone gray.

I like the billet grills, I am considering going that way. But, most of them require cutting the factory grill, and I don't know if I like that. I'd like to chrome the inside of the white factory border with a factory option if possible.

Welcome to FTE! Had you considered talking to the paint shop at your dealer? I'll bet it would cost under $100 to spray, if the paint will adhere to plastic for a long period of time.
I know what you mean though. When the '08 SD's first came out, the dealer had a white FX4 with the black grill insert and the front end looked too abstract for my taste.

I'm considering buying a factory chrome grill to experiment on. I'd like to keep my dark blue surround with the chrome center. I like the billet idea but haven't found one I really like yet. The Harley grill is pretty sweet too.
The chrome with the color-matched border would be a cool experiment. I'd like to see that.
The only problem is that the XLT chrome grill is all one piece- so you would have to tape off the edges perfectly to get black grill bars. The FX4 grille is two piece with a surround and middle piece...
^yeah I was going to mention that, not all of the inner grilles can separate from the outer surround piece like they do on the 04-08 grilles.
There was a company that made an overlay chrome trim piece that stuck onto the inner H-bar 04-08 FX4 grille. Maybe they make something like that for these new trucks. but I don't recall the company name though.
Found a 6-bar chrome OEM grill for $195 through Chicogo Parts on Ebay. That's cheap enough that if I don't love it, I won't mind the expense of having to go back to the original.
I found one of the sites that carries the overlay chrome trim piece I mentioned (i guess it just tapes on). They have a part listed for the 09-10 F150, but I'm not sure if it's for the FX4 bar style grille or not. You can see the picture of the 04-08 FX4 chrome bar overlay on there to give you an idea. This gives you an option rather than having to take apart the grilles and possibly break the tabs, etc.
The new 6-bar chrome grill came in from Chicago Parts on Ebay. I haven't figured out how to post pictures on this thing, but it looks great. I love it, and it was a piece of cake to install.
What grill are you talking about? Do you have a link to it? Does it just cover the center section? Looking to do something with mine as well and it sounds like you have found the right solution.
