05 superduty keyless entry

Sup fellas, I'm new on the block and I got a strange question for you wise learned gentlemen. I have an 05 F250 crew cab, 4x4 with the 6.0 powerstroke and I have an issue with keyless entry. The truck has power locks, but no keypad and I was wondering what's involved in getting Ford key fobs to work on this truck. Again I'm pretty new to the superduty scene. Thanks for your help fellas.

I would go buy an aftermarket remote start and kill two birds with one and probably be about the same amout of money. Also a car alarm could be included in the remote start.

I think the first thing you want to do is find out if your truck has keyless entry. If it's an XL or XLT, good chance it does not. Keyless was standard on Lariat and above, optional below that. If it has it, then all you have to do is buy some replacement key FOBS from eBay. You can figure out if it has keyless by following the FOB programming instructions in the owners manual. Even though you don't yet have FOBS, follow the instructions and if the key locks cycle during the programming sequence, then you have it.

If it's not there, I agree with the others, go after market.

thanks for the replies fellas. Can any of you fin gentlemen point me in the direction of a good keyless entry system? Or how do I find out if my truck came with keyless entry? I have fobs but I don't have the owner's manual. Also the truck is an xlt if that helps at all. Should I be able to look under the dash and spot the keyless entry module?

try this from the owners manual (05 F250) , (which you can get from here, http://www.motorcraftservice.com)

but it seems this will only work if you have the remote entry keypad, which would be obvious on the drivers door. Sam

To program the keyless entry
keypads remote entry transmitters
yourself:
1. Ensure the vehicle is
electronically unlocked.
2. Put the key in the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the 2 (LOCK)
position to 3 (OFF).
4. Cycle eight times rapidly (within
10 seconds) between the 3 (OFF)
position and 4 (ON). Note: The eighth turn must end in the 4 (ON)
position.
5. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming
mode has been activated.
6. Within 20 seconds, program the keyless entry keypad by pressing the
7 • 8 and the 9 • 0 controls at the same time.
7. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the keypad
programming mode has been activated.
8. Within 20 seconds, program the remote entry transmitter by pressing
any button on the transmitter. Note: If more than 20 seconds have
passed you will need to start the procedure over again.
9. The doors will again lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote
entry transmitter has been programmed.
10. Repeat Step 8 to program each additional remote keypad or entry
transmitter.
11. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position after you have finished
programming all of the remote entry transmitters. Note: If more than 20
seconds have passed you will need to start the procedure over again.
12. The doors will once again lock, then unlock, to confirm that the
programming mode has been exited.

The fob programming procedure should also be found in the owners manual. Download link already given.

If you really want a keypad, Ford makes a retrofit version that just sticks on the door with tape and operates wirelessly just like a fob.

But all that depends on whether the truck was built with keyless entry.

Thanks again for the replies guys. The truck does not have the keypad on the door so chances are I will just have to grab an aftermarket kit and install it. If anyone could point me in that direction, I would be much obliged.

Check with your local stereo shops, they will carry alarm systems that include remote door locks with keyfobs.
