hydraulic rocker clearance 351 Cleveland

Hi I am rebuilding a 79 F250. in the process I am fitting alloy heads and roller rockers with hydraulic lifters on a Stage 3 cam can anyone tell me the gap to set the rockers at when cold. so when I start the motor and the lifters pressurise they will not be over tight

what type of adjuster do you have, is it a 7/16" screw-in stud?

if so you could use anywhere from 1/2 turn(.025" preload) past zero lash to 1 full turn(.050" preload) past zero lash and be fine. generally the less preload you use the faster and higher the engine will rev all other things being equal.

there's a lot about preload in the archives, 'search this forum' for 'lifter preload' and read all about it
