15" Wheels on Dana 44HD?

1979 F250
460 C6
Dana 60 rear
Dana 44HD front (8 lug with big calipers)

I just bought a set of 15x12 inch wheels so I can run my 44's on my F250. Obviously, the wheels don't fit over the calipers. If you have done this, what modifications did you do to make them fit? If you have any pictures of the grinding required on the caliper, please post for me. Thanks!

Dont grind on the caliper. This is an old idea and not a very safe concept. Simply purchase the correct wheels with the right offset.

Technically your high pinion D44 is not considered an HD, these were earlier model D44is with thicker axle tubes, but yours does have a dual piston caliper, and shares this with the D60. This requires a larger diameter wheel or a wheel with 3 3/8" backspacing or less, provided that you use a steel wheel.

Here is pops truck with 42's and 15" wheels:

Here is my pile with 44's.
Notice how close it is and notice how the inside of the wheel gets scored when the rocks find their way inside of the wheel. If you grind the caliper, and a rock gets in there, you run the risk of damaging the caliper and breaking it. Not good.

Thanks for correcting my HD misunderstanding and the input.

Update on 15" wheel clearance issue. Despite being cautious of using wheel spacers over about 1/2", I decided to order a set of 1.5" spacers. I found a nice used set of 4 including the metric lug nuts for about $120. (Glad I got 4 so it don't look like a d***** chebby) New ones can be bought for about $90 for 2 without lugnuts. These can only be bought for these cheap prices because they use the metric 14mm x 1.50 Wheel Studs and Nuts. This was an undesirable trait for me but I was willing to make the sacrifice. I did, however, like how the inside studs are replaceable. Here are some pictures of what I've done. *Note- Minimal grinding on the caliper was required for complete clearance. The 2" spacers would have solved this issue. '79 F250 4x4 460 C6 - It has a 3" body lift and I'm gonna cut the fenders this weekend. 8 inch SD springs are sittin' on standby.

38's and 16.5" wheels on all 4 (no spacers)

44's and 15" wheels on rear 2 (no spacers required)

Used 1.5" spacers and metric lug nuts

Back of spacers

Spacers installed using stock lug nuts

Sawzaw action now required

New track width

Took the fenders off today because I still haven't decided just how I'm gonna cut them. Also, the front cab body mounts need to be moved. Any suggestions?
