i just bought a 2009 regular cab, flareside. i wanted to put one of the hydrolic bed steps on there, after i bought it. the dealership said the steps would not fit the flareside, only the styleside. i just don't believe it. they never even looked at my truck. the step isn't bolted to the sheet metal, its bolted to frames and/bars and things. i just wanted to know if anyone has any ideas about that. i really want one bad.

It maybe that when the step is extended, it seems to raise itself just a little and this may be the reason for them not fitting. Plus what is the distance from frame to outside edge of sheet metal, this may be it also. But I bet if you know a little about metal you could get them on your truck. There are some aftermarket steps that may fit. Chris
i think the ford place is going by that. but i think ford judt assumes if you have a step built in, you wouldn't need the step. but the trucks are so high, especially the 4x4, that i need a stool to get on the flare step. i just wanted the ford place to tell me why the step won't fit. what is different about the flare than the styleside. i am 99% positive it is not the different shape of the sheet metal. they look the same until you get to the flare step. i just don't think they are interested into finding out. and i don't think there is a difference, unless someone knows why. i just want one bad, and would like to know why. there is an aftermarket step, but it is nothing near as nice as the one ford has. the ford one is wider and safer too.

Personally if you have the cash to do this then get a little in their face and ask if they can even mock one up just to see if its a possibility and if so you will gladly pay to have it installed.

I would imagine that the frames are already pre-drilled for any and all accessories that are applicable for a particular wheel base and chassis. Therefore, if it requires some actual work and fore thought, the dealer isn't going to do it.
I'd also be willing to bet that once installed, it wou't look right on your rig.

Good point. I bought and installed one of these after the fact. All holes there already on frame, and if they were not, it could not be done without major metal work.
Also, these cannot go on a 5.5 bed truck, no matter the bed style, not enough room forward of rear wheel.
((((hey I was just thinking, you already have some side steps built into the flareside bed! LOL So why even need the other step right below it?)))))
steve, i have yet to meet anyone who can lift his foot up high enough to put it on the step. and 2 of them were over 6 feet tall. you are showing a 2004. i had a 98. the trucks are much lower to the ground than the new ones. and for a poster above, mine is a 6.5 foot bed.

well when you said the holes were already on the frame, i decided to go down to the ford dealer and check the frame of some trucks. i am now convinced that the steps will not fit on my truck. the holes are in the frame for the 2 places the step frame itself is bolted onto the truck frame. but the part of my frame, where the verticle brace bar is bolted to the frame, does not have the holes pre-drilled. i also looked at a regular cab style side, and the holes are predrilled for the verticle brace on it. so case closed, i guess.
