Not a lot but I can turn (rotate) my drive shaft some, my transmission is in park. Is there anyway to tighten the rear yoke to take up the slack? Also should there be any slack in the transfer case. My truck is a 99 F350 dually 4:10, what rear end is under my truck, a Dana or what?

 

How much can you turn it? Theres always a little slop.

 

Most dually's are equipted with Dana 80's in the rears. As for the play, i am not sure, might be a symptom of the carrier bearing going out, not sure though, more will chime in.

Thanks to all. How would I know if it's a Sterling or a Dana 80 ? As for how much slop, I can turn it about an an about a 1/4 inch.

One more question, I understand the parking gear having that much slop BUT should there be that much with the truck on the ground, I bet that video was when the truck was on a lift.

 

With all the tires on the ground should there be any slop in the drive shaft? And if not how do you get slop out of the rearend?

 

You will still have slop with the wheels on the ground.

 

Thanks, I just thought that the pinion should not have any slop. I don't like that and thought there was wear in the ring and pinion.

 

You need a little bit of play to allow the gear oil to get in between the teeth.
Also there will be more slop on the spiders than the ring and pinion.
You may be feeling that slop vs the bit of space allowed for the ring and pinion.
