What is with retail stores these days?

I was in my local grocery store last week and they had large assortment of Halloween candy. I go back in there today to get some (the day before Halloween) and all I see in that same isle is candy canes and gum drops. What the heck? The local hardware store even has Christmas trees up already.
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy Christmas, but all in due time.

Also, why is it, that when you go into clothing stores, you can find coats and sweaters in the summer and bathing suits in the winter?

Because many people buy the clothes they need before the season approaches.

This has been going on for a while, and it irks me to no end. By the time you get to a holiday, you're so sick of it that it loses most of its meaning.
As for the seasonal stuff, that's bad too. Heaven help you if you need a new coat in February or a swimming suit in July. Also, I'm more inclined to buy seasonals when the weather is at least BEGINNING to resemble the stuff that I'm looking at.

what person in their rite mind would buy an air conditioner in the summer, or a heater in the winter??
the proper way to do it is buy the ac unit in the winter, and the heater in the summer, so you put it in storage and loose it. this way, when you really need it, you will have to pay twice as much for half the unit.

I don't like ti either, but I believe the real answer is the economic climate in the USA today. The retailers know they are all competing with each other for your $, and so they start asap to display their wares. Can't really blame them, as most of us have scaled back our purchases due to the economy..............

Same thing here in VA. We were in a local big box retailer yesterday and they were playing Christmas music and had all of their Christmas decorations out on display. Seems like it gets earlier every year. As soon as the stores open up the day after Christmas, they'll probably have the Valentine's Day and Easter stuff out.

I like what our local hardware store does. They will have up all the Christmas stuff in the seasonal area, but it will be blocked off with sheets of black plastic so you can't see it. Come Thanks Giving it comes down.

Seems to me that even the clothing selection changes earlier. You get around Jan or Feb and the summer stuff starts to show up. They've had the Christmas stuff out for about a month now especially at the craft stores, which I can somewhat understand. Heard something about Sears starting the Christmas sales now. Pretty soon Christmas will be starting at the start of the school year.

Yesterday was black Friday at Sears. WTF?? The retailers got arrogant many years back when they discontiued thier layaway plans. Now that things are still in a tissy, some retailers are rethinking thier desicision and coming up with some pretty intuitive ideas.

We as a nation haven't had this many people out of work in 25 years. The big box retailers need to come up with ways for people who have less to still afford the items they need.

And I agree about all the seasonal stuff. They get way ahead of themselves.

Tim

I never notice this problem, NAPA, Harbor freight, and Ford parts counter aren't much on "seasonal" displays!

So true. By the Christmas actually arrives, I am burned out with the whole thing. Not really very much "Christmas" left - you have "winter holidays" or some other made up thing. What happened to the real meaning?

John - how many times do we have to tell you? It is HOLIDAY music and HOLIDAY decorations. You can't mention the word Christmas.....that is just so unfair to those people who don't celebrate....
