Sign of the times I guess.

The local Lowe's beat the local Walmart this year in putting out Christmas merchandise. Lowe's had it out at the end of September! My son and I walked in Lowe's back in late September and to the left was Halloween decorations and straight ahead....Christmas trees!

Plus, it seems all the artificial trees are pre-lit for some reason.

Yup, same here...Lowe's had christmas trees and decorations out in the last week of September.

It's ridiculous, christmas comes earlier every year now (and retailers can't wait for it to happen). I read that retailers make more than 50% of their profit for the year at christmas alone- something like that? It's definitely become a commercial holiday.

I'm just glad I don't work in retail anymore. The last year I was there, they started playing christmas music the week before Thanksgiving...agh! Basically when you work there, you have to listen to christmas music all day. Working retail just about ruined christmas for me, what with the incessant music and pissy customers who waited too long to try to get a present for little Johnny or Suzie and now it's sold out or there's a problem or whatever. Sigh.

Ray - I apologize to all those I offended by using the word CHRISTMAS. I should have been more sensitive to those that don't celebrate CHRISTMAS and those who would rather say something to the effect of "Happy Holidays" rather than MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I feel terrible. As such, I will refrain from wishing anyone on here a MERRY CHRISTMAS this year. My sincere hope is that the ACLU is reading this thread and will school me on the correct terminology since we can no longer use MERRY CHRISTMAS.

On another note, Happy upcoming Thanksgiving, Happy Easter, and all of the other holidays besides CHRISTMAS.

Glad you picked up the sarcasm in my post, John. I was afraid someone would take me seriously for a change.

I don't hate christmas and christmas music. Not right now anyway. But when I have to put up with it for two months or more I do get sick of the whole thing. Bah!

Christmas in the traditional sense is a wonderful holiday with a deep meaning to many of us...........................With the commercialization and exploitation of the holiday for 2 months before it, and then the PC "Winter holiday" BS accompanying it.....................I too am sick of it long before its over, they managed to ruin Christmas a long time ago.

We always go through so much trouble, and by the time christmas is over, we're so exhausted that it is more of a letdown than enjoyment.

This year, were telling everyone that we need to go out of town for an important work related emergency, and were renting a hotel room for a week, and we can relax and the kids can swim, and no cooking.

When we get home, we'll be so relaxed that any hard feelings will be irrelevent.

Once in a while you need to take some time for yourself and your family, and if it means avoiding christmas all together, so be it.

We've found something that works for us: every year we seem to go out and buy gifts that are not really needed, or what we really wanted to buy. We all seem to buy just to buy. Last year we decided to tell our families, and each other, that there would be no gifts. Instead, we asked that everyone take the money they would have spent on our gift and donate it to the local food pantry. Surprisingly, almost everyone did it, and we had a real sense of the Christmas spirit by helping those less fortunate. We counted our blessings while adding to theirs..........
