That's a good one to keep in mind with the cold weather coming.

Thanks Mark!

Great find. My alt died this summer and I've always wondered if it damaged my ficm. I'll test mine tomorrow if as soon as I find what screw to use. Thanks Mark, reps sent.

Thanks for the info Mark. I'd give you a rep but FTE says I must spread the love first.

I've got the same issue. Thanks Mark!

Folks who have done this test should post their results, either here or in another thread, so we can get an idea of what to expect of a failing versus a healthy FICM.

I will copy the procedure and paste it into a new post. I will definitely give credit to SWAMP and post the link to his original post. Maxium4x4 has said he will then put it in the Tech Folder - just under the "FICM Guide" entry.

Since one of the other forums was "hacked" and almost all info from past posts was lost, I just thought it should be posted in its entirety here on FTE.

Be advised that if you are under warranty, and your ficm is found faulty. If the dealer sees the cover has been removed, the warranty is void on that repair. There is no way to verify whether or not the customer shorted it out by probing with a volt meter or not.

Excellent point Vince - thank you. There seem to be quite a few posts from folks under warranty looking for help recently. Being informed is certainly very important. However, sometimes folks may not be so wise ..... for example: cleaning your EGR valve when you get an EGR code and you are still under warranty. You are covered at 100% if you take it in. If the valve is bad and you take it in later - they may not cover you when they see you have been into it! How can they be sure you did not get the wrong fluid into the weep holes!
