5 speed tranny swap on an FE

I am installing a 390 in my 67 F-100 4x4, and I'd like to install a later model (80's-ish) 5 speed and transfer case from an F-250, probably one off of a 460 truck. First of all, what tranny's did these trucks have, and can they be adapted to the FE motor? Thanks!

The ZF transmissions used in F250 and up behind either a 351W or 460 have integral bellhousings in the patterns of those two engines. They will not bolt up to an FE. It was SAID there are adaptors in the following thread, but no link to anyone selling such a thing. Forget the ZF, go for an NV4500. Oh yes, note the Clark being mentioned. Most are 1:1 in high, most are worn out, most are at the bottom of a scrap pile, and all require modifications to an FT flywheel and a host of other minor details.

Note there are links in that thread that take you to a company with info/parts/adaptors for the NV4500 into a Ford.

If I could afford a tremec, that would be great! I may just have to look into either the 4500, or just having mine re-geared. I have no need for a granny gear. Still would like to find a 2 speed transfer case for it.
