Ford has no aftermarket competition. Insurance companies pay for "ford genuine parts" and dont ask questions. They are not there for the average person to buy retail from.

Well, for things like latches I would say ok, but for things mechanical, wiring, electronics, water pumps, steering gear, I would say Ford is the best. I'm basing this on the Ford water pump that I bought new for my 1990 Bronco, picture in My Garage.
G_k50, when I replaced the water pump on my Escort leventeen years ago, I opened the plain-jane box, and inside was a brand new Motorcraft. Was the same part as FoMoCo installs at the factory, but at about half the cost.
Sometimes you get just as good quality at a lower cost. Or somebody messed up when they contracted with a parts house and had to come up with parts "Right Now!" or lose their contract for other stuff... so they bit the bullet, and subbed OEM factory parts where they had planned on using re-mans from Freds's Water Pump Rebuilding, in Outahere, GA. [I can pick in GA -- live here - not offense intended to other GA res.]
You never know. I thought it possible that some parts with low replacement rates were contracted into the parts house just to get the contract to sell the parts that MOVE. In other words, they'll get OEM for a particular model that sells slow, but have a re-man place for the ones that sell like hotcakes, and make their profit on the remans, and lose a few bucks on the low count items. Just thinkin' with my fingers again...

True that you never know what you're getting or where it's coming from... I just bought a reman alternator for the F100 and was stoked to look at the back of it and see the FoMoCo stamped into it! Cool. But it could have been something else from somewhere else.
The window latch deal just threw me because in the 208,000 miles on the Ranger, I have had to replace this latch a few times, and have always just gone down to the local Ford shop and picked up for maybe 10-14 bucks, but whey they said it would be 30 I said they had lost their minds. And then to find it out there for 3.80? Completely ridiculous. That's an 800 percent difference. Anyway, so now I know. Just hope it's really the right part when it comes in!
I belong to a Mercedes site, the fans over there would never consider using a remanufactured anything on their Mercedes. Maybe some of that fanaticism has rubbed off. This is Ford Truck Enthusiasts, Let's Ford it UP.

Just pray you haven't gotten what you paid for. I once was stoked to get replacement U-joints for only $10! Three thousand miles later I found out why they cost so little when they fell apart I could hardly believe they wore out so fast! I was happy to pay the $60 Ford wanted for a part that ended up lasting longer than the original. The Chinese parts probably were made from soft cold-rolled steel.
