Check engine light came on, took truck into ford and they replaced two exhaust sensors on the down tube of the exhaust pipe. They said oh, we have a new update for your truck. Which they then calibrated the system. I was receiving the message Cleaning Exhaust Filter for the whole duration of the process. However this new update I receive the message but its for only a second and it goes away. I can still feel the truck is in that mode, and it hasn't completed. However, I have no message for the whole duration now. Could this be a update from Ford to stop people from always complaining about this. If you don't see the message some will never know its happening. If I glance quick enough I can see the message appear, but go away immediately. Gas mileage slighly worse than the last update. Is there a way I can go back to the last update instead of this one? Is this a problem? I have called them and told them the Cleaning Exhaust Filter message doesn't appear while cleaning. Getting a tech at the dealer ship to understand that is almost not worth it.
I remember somebody here warning everybody that the newest update on the PCM was not a good one. If I were you, I would give it a few days. There are times when the messages on the display are inconsistent. Just yesterday my display read "cleaning exhaust filter" all day even though I knew it was not in a cleaning cycle. I called my diesel tech and he said once I shut down and restart it should go away. Sure enough, it went away. Never happened to me before but there are strange things that happen now and then.
I think going back to the previous software would require you to purchase it from a tuner company. I don't think Ford will do it. Don't quote me on that.

I agree. Also, this is what mine did before the last update. Mine would flash it for a few seconds at first, then go away. After the flash, mine stays on now til its done. Ive never had mine stay on like you rush, but knock on wood. I think you should be told if theres an update AND asked if you'd like it instead of hearing the rehearsed "Oh, its a better flash and it solves alot of conflicts". It seems like with every new one everybody's truck does something different. For now Im hoping mine doesnt need to go back to the dealer.

How does your newest flash do, compared to the last one you had. I possibly could have the one you had before it was updated. Just was curious what the difference was with MPG. I know we are tired of hearing about MPG, but if a flash is better than others and my Computer reads 17 and another time 14 and then 12 MPG, its a no brainer. I want the one that at least looks better.
You know, it would clear things up quite a bit if you all would post the actual service bulletin and show the PCM program version. Personally, I can't get mine 'cause I am 700 miles from home for the next 5 days but it would be good to know what you all are referring to. It should be printed on your service ticket.

Most of us had the customer satifaction re-flash around Dec Jan time frame. Not long after that I had heard then was an even later flash but it was a step back. Made things worse, appears so.
I never got any info about version numbers or anything. Personally I have made sure when I go in that they don't reflash mine.
Bottom line here really is if you are happy and it is running great don't mess with it. It will never increase fuel mileage so you might as well leave it alone.

I guess I'm screwed, they took it upon themselves to do the reflash for me out of good gesture I suppose. I do recall them saying I didn't have the newest update and that was done as well. I said kewl they done something without me telling them. I wished I could go back to my one before.
Note TSB 09-19-10. It is four pages long and ANY dealer can download it for you. It is for 6.4L vehicles built between 8/3/2007 and 1/2/2008 It supersedes TSB 9-16-10 to update the customer information sheet. My truck runs much better since that TSb last month. we see no degrade in any parameter. It does change the frequency of regenerations and how the Msg is displayed. It did correct the hesitation /surge at low speeds while towing. When our dealer does a tsb/ ungrade they do the complete printout of the TSb and give it to us...Don't they all do that????? Hope this helps someone...
