Lightbulb 2003 F250 w/no power options

Hey guys, My 2003 F250 SD Super Cab XL w 5.4l V8, does NOT have power mirrors, heated mirrors, power windows, power locks.

I have purchased a power/heated tow mirrors . I have purchased power lock kit for the truck. I have purchased a power window kit for the truck. One of the kits has keyless entry and auto start ect ect.

I am disabled and my son-in-law and one of his friends is willing to help install these kits. Is there someplace that I can get all the info on the installation and what all I will need to do this.

I know I may have to make my own harnesses. I have ordered spools of wire and crimp connector kits. Any and all advice is WELCOMED! I use the truck for snow removal and basically all these options will definatley help me stay in the truck instead of having to get in and out during the nice northern Illinois winters.

Also, can I cut out places in my armrest for the switches or should I order new armrest covers that are made for the switches or just get what I need from a good junk yard. Thanks in advance!

usually the power window kits come with switches and wiring harness..
you really only need +12 and ground.. the switches should mount to the face of the door panel or dash.

on the door locks, you should be able to control these with the alarm kit. and a separate window switch would allow you to lock/unlock from inside the truck.

the instructions should be with the kit.. usually for power locks you need two relays to handle the power load.. I just installed these kits in my hotrod.

if the doors were all manual, its unlikely that any wiring was run.. so you will need 4 wires into the door.. 2 for window 2 for lock.

electric start will be the most fun.

then the mirrors are next most fun.. which tow mirrors did you get?

Sam

Wow, sounds like quite a project, I strongly suggest you get someone that has done something like this to help you, the xl truck probably does not come with any factory wiring for the mirrors or doors. Sounds like you will need a power supply fuse block as well. I put one of those alarm kits with the power locks and auto/remote start in one of my hot rods and it must have had about 60 wires. I work with electrical sytems every day and it was quite a chore for me, the power lock relays had me confused for a while. Are these factory mirror and window kits?

Bill, if you're patient and willing to search a bit, you'll probably find everything you need here on the site. You may need to stretch out to some of the other forums...like interiors etc, but you should pretty much find it all on here.

As for switches, Ford has a set of blank switch units that are perfect for your truck. They're called "Upfitter" switches.

Joe

I have a 2004 cc 350, manual everything also. I had an alarm installed this summer and had the installer put door lock actuators on the front doors only, got home pulled the door panel to see how they were done. The door locks are simple to do, so I did the rear doors myself in a couple hours. There are no wires ran from the factory, so you will need to do that. I don't think what your about to do will not be very hard just time consuming. I do know being able to unlock the doors for everyone on a CC is much easier now. The right rear door is almost in another county when your in the drivers seat. Good luck.

Ok, got everthing delivered now. I attached the mirrors to the truck. Now, here is my first problem. I had the old paddle type and the truck has no harness for power heated mirrors. I have the Kool Vue power heated Tow Mirrors FD79ER and FD79EL. The wires coming from the new mirrors are 2 black,1 yellow,1 purple, 1 green, for a total of five. The 2 black, could be 1 blk and 1 brn, my eyes are getting old. I need to know which wire does what.....yep Kool Vue sent NO wiring schematic and no instructions? I have made 2 harnesses with 5 wires each, 1 long for the passenger side and 1 short for the drivers side. Any help on the wiring color would be helpful. Thanks
