I am sure you will get lots of opinions, but think of it this way, if you are going to be pushing the limit why chance it. Usually people say its safe to around 40psi, but what if your the one that can only handle it a couple times and then pops? Pretty sure you will be wishing you had just prepared for it in advance. What mods are you thinking of changing to? How much are you planning on getting?
i think i remember seeing somewhere right around 40-42 psi. i did however just read that if youre boosting over 40 psi you should have the hardened valve seats and better valves and valve springs installed. i guess to be on the safe side 40 psi is the magic number to upgrade head studs and the valve train.........
soo in other words i probaly should do head studs??what about the valve train?? springs, valves and seats?? what would you do?? being a 2000 powerstroke if i change the headstuds i should be ok with everything else??
Yep -- you're going to need headstuds with that. And probably rods. Sounds like you have forged rods, but even those may not hold up to levels you'll likely be at. How big are you planning on going with injectors? I have Casserly hybrids, 235cc/100% nozzles which are enough for 500+ HP. What kind of power levels are you after?
i would just like to keep it around the 500hp area, the injectors i was lookin at area the ones riff raff sells them stage IIIs 235cc..also what about the valve springs, valves and seats, would i have to mess with them?
Man, you're right on the hairy edge. Springs probably aren't a bad idea, but the rest of it is optional. I got mine from Clay, so you're probably looking at the same ones. I really like mine, but I'm running them on a stock PMR bottom end with a van turbo to keep things under control. With enough air, you'll get to 500, I'm sure. Mod'ed H2E or even the 38r, those injectors, and the right tuning, and I'm sure you could get into the upper 400s easily (without headstuds). Unless you really want to dive into it, I'd just go that route and save a bunch of $$$. That next jump to the 500s is big $$$.
ok clay thanx i'm currently waiting to hear about a settlement from my work injury hopefully case will be settled with in a month and if it does i'm going to be makin a nice lil purchase from you
well i was thinkin about full force hybrids, h2e, adreanline hpop, snow preformance...would that get me close to 40??
At this level you really should be looking to do studs, valve springs, and really consider push rods. Alot of the times when a head gasket does it caused damage to that cyclinders rod. Which might take awhile to rear its ugly face. Its way better to spend the coin on the safety percautions. You can get ARP studs for under 500 bucks, comp 910-16 valve springs for about 100. And could skip the push rods and be ok.
