I am working to clean up the engine bay of a 1986 4.9L for appearance sake. The original valve cover has the two posts near the fire wall which were used for holding the emission components which are no longer being used.
What is a good year of engine to be used as a donor for a replacement valve cover without these posts?
I know my '81 doesn't have them. I don't think they did until maybe '84? Anything from the late 70s to the early 80s would most likely work, maybe even further back.

Looks great!Nice price too,If I had a carbed version,I would buy one in a heartbeat. Top it off with some nice chrome hardware and wax the h*** out of it,so as not to rust, may be cheap chrome, but if you protect it,it's no problem.
hey, junior! you will soon be a senior(just a few more posts) Then you can show us some pics of your truck.(since you wont tell us about it)
I'm sorry, I'm just a little technologically retarded, and the few pictures I do have of my truck don't seem to want to upload. But as for telling you about it, it's big, old, slow, and has rust holes in the rear wheel wells. But seriously, what do you want to know about mah truck?
Geeze, interrogation, huh? just joking. I got it because it was an 80-86 body style ford pickup, it was a 3/4 ton, good for heavy hauling, it had a 4 speed w/ granny low (I don't like slushboxes-I mean automatics...), it was a 4x4 (gotta have that up here for snow and going wheeling) And most important of all, it had a FORD 300 CI inline six. And it was only 400 bucks (knock in the engine, yes I know wtf you never find a ford 300 inline with a knock in it, turned out to be a timing gear missing teeth)
I plan on getting rid of that crappy Carter 1 bbl carb soon and replacing it with a 4 bbl, offy manifold, EFI exhaust manifolds. I have also been toying with the idea of an sas (solid axle swap for you non 4 byers) dana 60 front that is, and getting rid of the semi floating 10.25 and trading it for a full floater, and some detroit lockers eventually. So basically giving it the title of "locked one tons" And probably a couple inches of lift.
hey, our trucks have valve covers...lol thot about doing the PM thing. if you are going to do all those mods, you prob arent gonna be happy with a six banger.
