when I hit the turn signal the windshield wipers come on

anybody ever had this problem? and I made sure I'm not accidentally hitting the windshield wiper switch when it happens. I can also wiggle the switch lever back and forth and make the wipers come on (again without actually hitting the wiper switch) i'm guessing it's a problem with the whole turn signal lever and I should just replace the whole thing...

Sounds like your multifunction switch is bad. Here's a link with some detail on changing it.

HI Josh, I'd say it's more than likely a switch issue.

Not a bad job. Check all of the wires near the switch just to make sure none of them look like they have been hot while you're in there.

Update: I finally got around to replacing the multifunction switch. Upon plugging in the connectors, the windshield wipers and washer fluid came on for one cycle, even though I did not push the washer fluid button. It alarmed me at first, mostly because i was standing right outside the truck with the door open and washer fluid got sprayed in my face

Anybody else replace the multifunction switch and have that happen? In hindsight, I realize I should have unplugged the battery first, oh well. I'll have to wait and see if the switch is working properly and I'm not having the wipers come on at random times while I'm driving.

I'm sorry, I am still laughing five minutes later. I've done that to myself before while cleaning the windshield but the way you phrased it and that emoticon REALLY made my day. Thanks!

stangman.... Glad to see you got it working with the replacment... I'm sure it's OK now.

Yes, Been squirted quite a few times cleaning the windshield.... It scared the heck out of me the first time!!!

My would wipe once in a while all by themself & repeat every min or so with both hands on the steering wheel... on a sunny day I would feel so Stupid.

To Future readers:

It might not be the switch is BAD... Just Dirty...

A common problem

Do a Search for "Fix intermittent wiper problem"

haha, glad I could give you a laugh

everything seems to be working properly now. except the swivel end cap on the knob to adjust the intermittent wipers seems quite hard to turn. I'm wondering if this end cap is removable so I can put wd40 in it or something?
