Hmmm...out a 76 model. Which 1976 model would that be? LTD, Torino, Cougar, Mercury Marquis or?

That engine would be from a passenger car, because F100/350's didn't get 351M/400's until 1977.

351M: 1975/79 Passenger Cars / 1977/79 F100/350 / 1978/82 Bronco / 1980/82 F150/350 & Econoline.

400: 1971/79 Passenger Cars / 1977/79 F100/350 / 1978/82 Bronco / 1980/82 F150/350 & Econoline.

Stroke: 400 = 4.00" // 351M = 3.50"

Better verify it is a 351M or 400, because the same Passenger Cars that came with 351M's and 400's also came with 351W's.

351M/400 = EIGHT valve cover bolt holes per side // 351W = SIX valve cover bolt holes per side.

351M/400: The fuel pump bolts to the left (drivers) side of the engine block / 351W: The fuel pump bolts to the timing cover.
