Ok, I am trying to buy a 95 f250 standard cab, 5 speed from an old very sweet widow. It was her husbands truck till he passed away about 5 year ago. The thing is the truck has been sitting for about 2-3 years with out being driven. She said she would go out and start it up till about a year ago. Now its just been sitting there dead ever since. I hopped in it and to my surprise the bats were still up. So I cranked for about 3 seconds and then decided to call it quits. I didn't know if there could be injector damage to them if they didnt have any fuel in them. that was the extent of my trying to start it. It has 128k on it. What is the proper way to start this thing with out damaging anything?
first check the oil to make sure it hasnt collected water. if it looks ok then check the high pressure pump resevoir to make sure its full. (it doesnt have to be but it will take less cranking if its full) with that said just crank it.
Get yourself a new fuel filter and some Diesel fuel additive of your choice. Pop the cover on the bowl. Drain the bowl by opening the drain valve (yellow thing attached to the bowl). Close the drain valve. Fill the bowl about 1/2 full of your additive and install the new filter. At least that will give it a good shot to start up. Maybe put some fresh fuel in one of the tanks. It may be out of fuel also. This in addition to the suggestions above.

Charge the battery's up. These things need to spin over fast to start. After sitting that long they might turn the engine over but probably not fast enough.
