starting help

well its a 1992 7.3L diesel single cab f250

so it was going great till just about a week ago when I had to jump it... I left it running ran inside to talk to my friend and when I came out it was dead (might have been his neighbor she likes to turn things off) . later I charged up the batteries and jump it, all it will do when I turn the key is make one click and that’s it.

my friend says that the noise was not coming from the starter... so starter solenoid needs replacing or...?

thanks

Last time I had this problem I replaced the batteries (turned out they were like 6 years old), then a short time later it did it again- replaced the starter solenoid and it was fine again.

The second time, I'm still wondering if it really was the solenoid or if it was just a bad connection...but I boogered up the solenoid taking it off so I had to replace it anyway. Starter tested OK.
