I have 62K on my truck. I do not pull or haul with it. I do sometimes drive it as if I stole it though. This truck is completely stock, just added a coolant filter about 7K ago. I would like to ad a tuner in the near future but would like to what and see if my HG goes south. Then under warranty add ARP's before the tuner. With everything I have been reading it seems that the HG should have gone or be on it's way out. Awhile back I did get some puking, but the result was from a bit of over fill after a coolant flush. Now my question. How long do HG last without any mods? How many people are still running with there OEM head bolts and with how many miles? How long can I expect the to last? Question, question, question, I need some answers.
There is no telling how long they will last. It's not really a time line type of thing. I would say though stock and never really pulling anything they will probably last a long time. They could last the life of the truck.

I may stand corrected, however I don't think the dealership is supposed to install studs as a warranty replacement to head bolts. I have read where some have done it but the corporate boys aren't happy about it taking place.
Mine lasted 81000 miles pulling a 9000' 5th wheel once a month or so. I think the reason mine blew was overheating caused by a clogged oil cooler. The dealer that did the gaskets didn't check the oil cooler and after and $1800 head gasket job, I was still overheating. Took it to a different dealer who diagnosed the real problem. Not sure why they clog. I change oil religiously at 5K but ????????

It clogs on the coolant side, because of the casting sand in the block. This is why the coolant filter is much more important on this trucks, than any other mods IMO.

Bought mine at 85k, started puking on a trip to Hatteras and back. It also ran the engine fan constantly with the boat behind it. Oil cooler was clogged with sand and not allowing much coolant to get to the egr cooler. What did flashed to steam and puked. Replaced both the oil cooler and egr though the egr checked fine under pressure. Egr has a ss plug in the input side so no exhaust flow anymore. Truck runs great with no problems. Also installed a coolant filter and now the coolant stays a nice golden clear color.
Headgaskets aren't the issue with these trucks. We aren't talking about 02-04 Mustangs here. I've got 2 yrs about 80k miles on mine(just within the two years, I've had this truck going on 3.5 yrs now) and I'm pushing a little over 500hp at the rw, I really doubt that there will be any problem other then normal usage degradation over time with someone just using a tuner.
Now if you want to talk about headbolts, that's an entirely different story altogether. Alot of people link the two as in one is faulty so the other must be as well. The gaskets are sound, in fact after you do the stud job(that still never "sounds" right) I would stuck with stock gaskets as the a/m ones are actually more of a pain then anything else, much more expensive for very little in return.
