Headviking is starting off with a positive reputation.
So from what I understand, using a tuner without the ARP studs will shorten the life span of my OEM head bolts.

This is going to be nit-pickin here, but using a tuner doesn't mean that it will shorten the life span of the stock bolts, but using a tuner can shorten the life of the stock bolts.

There are alot of different variables that come into play here. Were the bolts installed correctly either at the factory or at a later time rather they were replaced with stock bolts or a/m studs, what type of tunes are you using(canned or custom(if custom how is the power achieved?), not necessarily tow v. street v. race), what type of driving style does the driver have?

Now, I'm not saying tuners, rather custom or canned, can't cause problems, they can, but they can also make existing problems known that people may or may not have known that they had. This is where I think tuners have the bad rep. There are users on this board that believe, you run a tuner, you're going to blow the bolts; you may blow them, but you may not, they phrase it however, as that it is known that you will blow them.

It's very possible if the OEM bolts weren't torqued right at the factory.

If anybody wants an idea of how long the HG's will last while doing a lot of towing. I have a friend who has a 2003 Excursion (Oct. 2002 build 6.0) that has just over 150,000 and tows a boat and trailer (10,000 LB.) from Phila. to the Jersey shore every weekend weather permitting for the past 7 years. No parts except a ICP replacement when it was new ever failed. Original turbo, injectors, and ball joints. This truck was never messed with, all factory. My ball joints (lowers) only lasted 102,000

I have 220K on my 04, I've been running SCT street tune for probably the last 80K. I didn't have any gauges before the SCT, I pulled a toy hauler around about as hard as I could, I'm a little better about it now that I have gauges. I don't want to say anything to jinx myself but I'm surprised I don't have more probs. I've got something going on that sooner or later I expect to get bad, whatever it is.

I might need something expensive right now, I'm just waiting to see if I can stretch it out until I'm ready for a new truck. I've had some puking for 100K miles, tea kettle noise but new cap stopped that, I get a little bit of white residue and I can hear it hissing after shutting down but coolant level doesn't drop and I have no other noticeable symptoms. I had the no heat at idle thing for a while but I flushed the heater core with a product we use to clean water cooled refrigeration condensers and it's roasting now, ran it through the block and I'm getting some crud out to say the least so I finally got a coolant filter this week.
