Just picked up my 2000 Eddie Bauer edition Expedition.

Hi gang. Just drove home my new (to me) 2000 Expedition Eddie Bauer. It's that classy maroon and tan combo which i think looks really sharp. Being the Eddie Bauer, it's got all the bells and whistles except sunroof.
I'll take some pictures in the next day or two and post up, but first, a couple of questions:
- What's your "Must do" maintenance check on these. the plugs were recently done, so I'm hoping I don't have to worry about those ejecting.
- I'm looking for a second set of wheels to put some dedicated snow tires on. Aside from F150's and expeditions, anything else have that same bolt pattern? Looking for cheap, so something that's likely to be in a junkyard is helpful.
- How tough is it to replace the parking brake shoes? Took a quick look at a chiltons manual, and it looks pretty simple. Any common pitfalls?
- I have a Factory repair manual for my 1977. Is anything like that availible for these? I don't think Detroit iron sells anything this new.

Thanks in advance, and I'll be seeing you around the forum.

I agree, it is a very good color combo. Only have experience in one area and that's the plugs. As long as the installer knew (and this is from what I have read here) to make sure to snug the plugs in the head (7 to 15 ft lbs), use Motorcraft plugs, and anti-seize, you should be fine. There's a thread in the 5.4 section in which people have polled if they had a blow out. One guy had 2 or 3 plug ejections and when he pulled the plugs he found Champion plugs in the head from the previous owner. IIRC, the other can stem from over-torquing the plugs. If you can, find out who did the plugs to ensure proper installation took place. If not, and if this were my vehicle, I'd pull all the plugs to ensure it was done OK.

Hope this helps some.

For an extra set of wheels, hit the salvage yards NOW. There are tons of F150's and Expys that were traded on cash for clunkers. They will only be in the yards for a short time for parts before they are crushed. I would think you could find a screaming deal on a set of 16" factory wheels right now.

Parking brake shoes are pretty easy. Remove the wheel, remove the caliper, soak the center of the hub with penetrating oil then pull the rotor off. Make sure the PB is released and once the rust on the axle breaks loose, you will be looking at the shoes.

I'm in Canada, so we didn't do that cash for clunkers thing. If anyone in the US wants to pick some up for me and deliver them, I'll buy beer once you get here.

Photos uploaded. It looks much shinier in the pictures than in real life. It's actually somewhat dirty and scratched.

Very ironic. I picked up my NTU 2000 Expy EB a few weeks ago in the blue/tan combo. My plugs were recently replaced as well as the brakes. Today, I had the emergency shoes replaced as you mentioned doing. I heard some loud clunks last week and thought it was the brakes seizing up or a rear end issue. I was a little concerned. On Sunday heard some metal/metal from the rear and had a bad smell. Inspected it and saw shavings and a lot of dust on the driver rear wheel. Mechanic thought it was a seized caliper at first but upon inspection it was the shoes came loose on the ER shoes and he replaced them and good to go. $136 repair. Very happy. My only other fix to do is get the driver seat to heat. PAssenger seat heats fine and I bet it is the electrical connections between the heating elements have burned up.

I spent 10 hours detailing the interior and exterior of my Expdy after getting it and you would never know it had 175k miles on it. The mechanic even commented that it looked very well maintained. How many miles on yours?

I changed the front and rear diff fluids, flushed radiator changed the t-stat, changed t-case fluid, and fixed the sunroof as it would only tilt and not open.

That's really funny. My wife drove it for the first time tonight and swears the drivers seat doesn't heat up.
I'm at 245,000 kms, which is about 153,000 miles. I need to find the maintenance schedule and look at all the receipts that came with it before I figure out what needs to be checked/changed and inspected.

Seventyseven250 Its very common for the drivers seat heater to quit working because it usually gets more use than the passenger. The most common failure is a broken wire in the seat cushion. Its hard to get replace ment parts and at one time you had to buy the whole lower seat cushion. If you are handy you can take the seat cushion leather off and try to repair the wire. One last thing to check would be all the connectors are hooked up ander the seat.

If I could find a seat in the Junkyard, that would be a pretty easy swap I suppose, but it's probably also going to be broken. Maybe I could do surgery on the junkyard seat in not have to worry about wrecking it.

Is it best to remove the seat to try to get to the wire? Does the leather just unhook under the seat and you peel it back? Is the wire replacement a tough fix. One thing I don't do is electrical. If it is just a piece of wire that I can splice in and put some wire nuts on I can do that. More than that and forget about it.

Does the button light up? If it does and the seat doesn't heat, it is probably a wire. If the button doesn't light up it could be a fuse.

I removed the seat from the truck because it was winter and cold in Buffalo NY. I brought the seat in the house to work on. Near the front bottom there are two rods on each side held by a screw, you unbolt and slide a rod out which holds the leather on and some other clips. Its not hard to remove the leather from the cushion. The wire is small and you need like a 30 watt pencil soldering iron an electronics type, not the bigger gun types. The wire is small maybe 20 awg or so, you can see the break usually by some brown burn marsk on the white foam. The wire usually breaks about right where your tail bone is on the seat and that seam about 3 to 4 inchs from the backrest. Mine worked for a month or 2 then quit again. I plan to install an aftermarket seat heater system in my seat.

I'm a new owner of a 2001 EB Expedition... Laser red with Tan which I personally love. Mine has 158k miles on it, and I don't even have the heated seats or sunroof - I'd really like those options!

Is it possible to add heated seats to a truck without them? I'm assuming there is zero chance of the seats having the heat elements in there since I don't even have the switches anywhere....

This doesn't fit anywhere else so I thought I'd mention that I bought one of those facotry service manuals on DVD from ebay. only been looking at it for five minutes, but it appears to be the real deal. If anyone needs anything looked up, I don't mind helping out.
It's supposed to be all Ford and Lincoln vehicles from 2000-2004.

Okay...what would the correct ignition timing be on a 1955 Bel Air Chevrolet, with a 327 cubic-inch engine and a four-barrel carburetor?
