OEM parts

Any thoughts on good and reliable sources for original equipment parts? I would like to use as many original ford parts in the repair/restoration of my truck as I can and I'd sure like to know where the best sources are! Obviously any sponsors of this site or forum would get preference. Thanks!

Thanks, I appreciate the effort. I would like to keep my truck as stock as possible and knowing where to get OEM repair parts will be a big help. BTW is the bra an Autolite, a Motorcraft or an original Ford part?

For genuine Ford parts, and discount prices for FTE members...Ed Olson (partsguyed), parts manager at Millennium Ford in Seattle WA is the one to contact.

The bra would be an original Ford part. Motorcraft didn't sell bra's, Ford sold Auto-Lite in 1972.

AFAIK, Ford, Motorcraft, nor Auto-Lite didn't sell panties.

Wow, thanks guys! I really appreciate the response! Now for the next part of the question... How should I go about contacting these members. As I said in another thread I'm new here and I know there are guidelines about such things so I figure it is better to ask before stepping on someones toes. Any of you are welcome to contact me anytime by whatever means you deem necessary, so let me know how you would like me to proceed. Chris, as far as your wardrobe choices go, I guess I didn't realize what a can of worms I was opening up! I'll try to stay on subject from here on out!!!

Well, before the Internet and e-mail, people generally used these electro-
mechanical devices called telephones (which later became all electronic with
varying degrees of success).

Alternatively, the U.S. Postal System generally worked well. There was a
technology called Citizens' Band Radio that was popular in the 1970s & 80s
but it didn't have the range that Short-Wave Radio has.

Failing those, the Pony Express worked OK but business waned as the
Telegraph came into use.

If none of those options are adequate, homing pigeons or smoke signals might
work.

If the person is within a reasonable geographic distance, two soup cans
connected via a string can work.

Or, perhaps notes written on paper airplanes.

O.K, O.K, I get the picture! I just didn't want to be some nube e-mailing and calling everybody to find parts if that isn't how business is done around here. So far everyone on this forum seems really nice and willing to help which isn't always the case. Thanks for all of your help and your sense of humor! I just wish I could work on my truck as fast as the answers keep coming in! Have you ever considered becoming a speech writer?!?!
Dave

I forgot Sign Language (if you both know it).

It's good to ask if you don't know, just pullin' your chain in fun.

People are generally helpful but we're all human and have our moments and pet peeves
and whatnot.

I have a hard time getting that trademotion stuff to work, I can rarely give it a correct part
number OR it'll come back listing parts that one would assume they have in stock but they
later send me e-mail saying they don't have it. ;(

Type the part number into the trademotion system without any spaces or hyphens, like this: COAZ9202B for example.

Otherwise, you'll get: No parts found.

Typing part numbers into dealer websites: If the part is available from Ford, the prices will come up, but...

That does not mean the particular dealer has the part.

The only way to know what dealers have particular parts is...to call them up using your Ameche, email them, or lemme know.

I have access to the Ford Dealer Parts Locator System, so I can tell you what dealer(s) have the part, how many each dealer has...and etc etc etc.

What in the world is an Ameche? Ya gotta be ancient to remember, because...

Actor Don Ameche played Alexander Graham Bell in a film made in 1939. For years afterwards, the slang term for a telephone...was: Ameche.

I don't know what spreading the love or rep means - did I forget to do something? Also, what is the trademotion system you are refering to, and is it something I would have access to? One more thing, and this is probably a better question for Bill: There is a company near us in Riverside CA that sells manuals for all kinds of vehicles including parts manuals. How stable are Ford part numbers and if I were to buy an older manual would the information in it be current or traceable through the more modern parts cataloging computer systems? Any thoughts?

I was talking to Bill (NumberDummy), you're fine.

The trademotion.com site is where you actually end up when you surf to, say,
partsguyed.com (look at your browser's Location bar once you actually get
there). Those trademotion people merely provide the Internet storefronts for
parts dealers to sell their wares on the 'net.

The other question is better for Bill to answer, he's the expert in that area.
However, my guess to his answers will be:

1) Not terribly, they update thousands of part numbers each year.

2) No.

Whew, I was worried there for a bit!! I'm thinkin' you're probably right on the money with the parts manuals. Seems like everybody likes to keep reinventing the wheel! I've found some parts on ebay that will hopefully be OK. I'll certainly post a message if I find another source, but in the meantime I will start working with Ed...
Thanks again!
