Yup. There supposed to be real good. There's a guy on the Manitoba-Saskatchewan chapter (t_dickie) that's got a couple. I t might be his dad that has them, but they're in the family. If it's not got too many miles on it and it's in good shape, then snag it. Maybe not for that price, but that depends on you and the truck.

well if it is still there this weekend I will have to look at it. This is usually a problem when I find something, it's usually gone before I get there. I travel for work, guess I'm lucky to be working. Ford built these in the USA or across the pond ?

what motor did they have in them? I didn't know that ford was putting out a smaller diesel.

Now I know you could get the cat diesel in a ford one year.
bout 500 of those were made.

All power. badass motors.

I've only seen one, it was "well used" LoL. Power wasn't great, but I think it was just a 4 cyl. Pulled a 76 250 HiBoy about 30 miles with a bumper dolly, was a comical sight! Guy ran it till the body fell off, and swapped to a gas ranger. Never liked the gasser as much as the diesel, tried buying the motor/trans back but passed away before it could happen.

I had a look at wikipedia. Apparently there was a 2.2 Mazda/Perkins and a 2.3 Mitsubishi turbo in the first gen ('83-88) rangers.

Man, if it's in as good a shape as he makes it sound, I'd seriously think about it (prolly get it for 1600 to 1800)....

Diesel Ranger

Too bad we cannot get the current Diesel Ranger in the States. I am in Afghanistan and see the ones that the Afghan Police and Army use. They are 4 door, 5 speed, 4x4. I would love to have one, but for some stupid reason, they can have them here but we cannot get them in the States????? The way these guys drive here and how well they hold up, it would be great.

It's because the powers in charge of the USA (you know, the OIL COMPANIES) insist on having vehicles burn more fuel, but supposedly cleaner. So they don't meet the US emissions standards.

Why? Ford couldn't give them away in the 1980's, and the mechanics wouldn't touch them.

Good luck finding parts today for those Mazda and Mitsubishi diesel engines.

How many remember the BMW 6 cyl diesel Ford stuck in 1984 Mark VII's?

There may still be some a those cars unsold in dealerships today, because hardly anyone bought any.

The facts are...and this has nothing to do with the oil companies, is...that the American public has shunned diesel engines for decades.

If it won't sell, why would automakers bother? Besides VW, who else offers a passenger car in the US today with a diesel engine?
