lol see the zoodad mod says a little bit. That mod has more to do with looking for an issue that would be caused by an aftermarlet airfilter.
and to further that statement a bigger hole to let water in and more road dirt (even the one cfm). but mostly the first reason.
I know that you know this cheezit, but for those who don't ...............
The blue media air filters resist water. Properly sealed, they will keep out road dirt and even moisture for a long time - even the slight extra amount from the ZOODAD. IF they happen to get restricted before the TYPICAL time frame (which is a LONG time), the filter minder will tell you.
I have the zoodad, a coolant filter, and a ccv r-route. NONE of these are mods to CAUSE problems when done right. They are all beneficial (well except the zoodad which really isn't worth much IMO). I have NO performance mods. I also plan to get gauges. WHY - because they help me prevent running w/ low fuel pressure and damaging injectors, can help me catch a stuck turbo BEFORE EGT's and boost cause damage, AND they will point out a plugged oil cooler - HOPEFULLY BEFORE I operate w/ a leaking EGR cooler for long enough to hydrolock the engine, etc.
Clearly though, a closed minded dealership could cause any of us problems w/ these mods ........... why? just because.
Key point - It is very important to establish a good relationship w/ the dealership so they know that you are not trying to shaft them.
One of the WORST things you can do is hide your mods from the TECHS which can make it VERY HARD for them to troubleshoot your problems. They will eventually figure out the mods that you have done. By then they have spent more than the book time troubleshooting your truck and they have lost money. The 6.0L is hard enough to work on - they do not deserve it to be made harder.

all true. But its a reason to go looking. So when I have a truck doing starnge and out of the normal brakage Its one of the things I look for.
Also every truck I have seen come in to a dealer has had an aftermarket filter or the oem one was put back in.
A dirty engine and clean air box is the best giveaway here. the other one is noone seems to rember to put the air filter minder back in.
