2005 overdrive trans shift problems

Hi all,

I have a 1995 van with the 5.8 and overdrive tranny. Most of the time, it shifts and operates properly, but at random times, and for 3-4 days at a time, it shifts late and fairly hard. Currently, no flashing overdrive on the shifter, or other indications.

I have had the flashing overdrive a couple of times in the last few months. Once was for low fluid (D'oh!), refilled it and it was fine. The other time i had the flashing od light, there were no other symptoms along with it, and fluid level was fine.

one suggestion was that the o-rings on an accumulator were worn, allowing fluid to leak by, but wouldn't that show these symptoms all the time?

Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks!

Low fluid won't make the OD light flash.

You need to get the codes that are stored in the computer's memory. Without the codes all you can do is buy parts and install them until you stumble on the problem.

Your truck is OBDI, so a $25 code reader will work just fine. In fact, there are instructions floating around the 'net to read the codes with a paper clip. I don't have those instructions, but I have tried this and it works.
