Keep us posted on this. I may be doing this same thing soon.
Im stuck. The plastic ring on the line connecting to the slave is destroyed and already smashed up inside the ring where it is supposed to go by whoever worked on this thing before I owned it, but all the tugging and pulling in the world wont get the line to come apart. Ive been to Pepboys, Checker and Autozone and none of them have the disconnect tool. Just my @#$#ing luck as usual
The transmission is ready to be dropped but I cant get the damn line undone. I have everything needed to put it back together but alas I will be working on it yet another day when I had planned on having this done by this evening.
had the same problem with my plastic ring. really need 3 hands to try and disconnect the line. one to push in on the line and then will need 2 small flat screwdrivers and push in on the plastic ring then try and pull the line out. I couldn't find a new plastic ring so i just bought a new Line from the dealer. Need to call dealer and see if you can just buy the ring

Just did, and of course you cant by just the ring, but I can buy the line with the ring for the low price of 134.99+tax and they dont even stock it, lmfao
edit: I just said screw it and cut the line so I could get the tranny down and check things out. haha
I bought my line from my dealer and it was about $90. this was about 3 months ago
Well I guess Ford Country of Henderson is ripping people off. Im just going to order a new line from car parts wholesale.com or rock auto...45 is much better than 145 after tax. Should I lube the input shaft or inside of the slave cylinder at all?
the switch is 2 pieces. The piece on the opposite on the plug comes off. Then you disconnect the rod at the brake pedal then try to pull the rod out of the M/C. Then rotate the M/C counterclockwise on the bracket in your second pic
This is the second time you have said disconnect the rod at the brake pedal....what the heck does the brake pedal have to do with doing the clutch?? I posted this pic earlier but got no repsonse....im pretty sure this is what you are referring to. I have no idea how to get this damn thing off, I even went so far as sticking a flat head screwdriver in teh middle and twisting, something snapped but the clip stil wont come off so I cant get the rod off. Ive got the piece of the back of the switch but without being able to take out the rod I cant get that out either. This is so retarded
Its cool man. I guess now Im not going to be able to have it done for another 5 days or so since I gotta order a cable. Theres no way in hell Im paying almost $150 for that thing from the stealership. I work tomorrow so and Sunday so on Saturday Ill toss the transmission and put everything back together that way when the line gets here I just have to bleed the system and Im good to go.
Eaglefixer, Ill ask for the 3rd and final time....in the picture of the clutch pedal/rod that I have posted twice how the heck do you get that clip thingy off? I tried prying with a flathead screwdriver and snapped it in one place but its still on there and wont come off. Youve said numerous times to take the rod of the pedal (which I know to do) but youve skipped over my question of how to get that clip off so I can get the rod off. Thanks for putting up with the questions man, if there is anything you need to know about Mustangs I could help you build one from the ground up, but these little Rangers are brand new to me.
the clip has small tabs that you squeeze. The clip comes out with the rod
Sweet, Ill have to check that out when I get home from work tomorrow evening. I am going to call Rockauto, Car Parts Wholesale and a few other places in the morning to see if I can purchase just the line. Car Parts Wholesalers has a line on their website for $45 but its for a late 80s-early 90s model so Im crossing my fingers and hoping they carry the line for the newer Rangers. Ill post up my results for miller and anyone else following the thread. If they do carry it it would be more cost effective to just replace everything hydraulic related on the truck at once.
edit: You gotta wonder why they make these things with so many oddball clips and retainers. While working inside the cab is definitely cleaner and not as labor intensive, I much prefer turning wrenches and working with nuts and bolts then trying to figure out how to undo the myriad of little thingamajigs that are brittle and sometimes break
Do you have any salvage yards around you? You may find a good used one for cheaper. Just throwing this out there.
I do, but I decided to go a different route. Originally I was just going to replace the line and the slave cylinder and reuse the master, but Rockauto has an ACDelco kit that includes the master, line, slave and some seals as well as the disconnect tool for $84.79. I know it sounds too good to be true but I called this morning to ask and make sure the kit did indeed include everything and the lady put me on hold while she called ACDelco and found out it does. So for $93 I have the entire hydraulic system being shipped to me and should be here on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. It is just too good of a deal and I couldnt pass it up considering I paid $64 dollars for just the slave cyclinder from Checker Auto Parts yesterday but its getting returned tomorrow. Plus ACDelco is a pretty legit company considering GM uses it as OEM for a lot of their production vehicles to this day.
Ill let you guys know more about the kit when I get possession of it and will snap a couple pictures to show exactly what is included. Im just in shock that for $40+ less than the dealership wanted for the line alone, I am getting every single piece of clutch hydraulics for the truck
For those of you who havent checked out Rockauto.com I highly recommend doing so for your part(s) needs. g_k50 turned me onto them for replacement taillights for my truck and their prices are insanely low and the customer service is great. I needed a right taillamp for my truck but since they were so cheap ($38 shipped to my door for both) I bought both so one didnt look more worn than the other. They screwed up and sent me 2 left taillamps so I called and they overnighted a right one to me and let me keep the 2nd left one. Speaking of which if anyone needs a left taillight for 98/99 Ranger Ill send it to you for $5 + shipping.
