Gas milage while towing

can I expect milage to pick up with a little break-in?

The V10 was getting about 1.5 mpg worse milage than my half ton Avelanche towing the same trailer, with the Avy in 3rd instead of D.

I was expecting the V10 to be the same, or a bit better

The truck is heavier so it could suck more gas. How many miles on the truck.

I just finished towing some skid steers from CT to PA to NY to NH. The trailer and machine of the 1st was 16k and the trailer and machine of the 2nd was 12.5k mileage with first one was 7.2 and the 2nd was 8 a little lower than normally that I would get but was cruising faster to get it done over the weekend.

When towing mileage isn't great but these V10s are a beast and not towing it a pleasure to drive with a little extra get up and go.

What are you towing?
My truck gets 7-9 mpg towing the 33' travel trailer (approx 8k lbs).
It gets 9-11 mpg towing the open car trailer with the TBird on it (approx 5500lbs).
It averages 12 mpg running around town, and 14-15 mpg on the highway.
I replaced the '98 F150 in my sig with this '05 F250,and tow the same loads. The differences are that I can basically tow anything I have in OD with no effort at all, and have an abundance of power for passing and merging when I step on the happy pedal. Fuel mileage is slightly better towing the big travel trailer, and the same with the car trailer.

Check out the TECH Folder at the top of this forum. In there, you will find three polls, towing/highway/mixed.
