1) If the warranty plate found on the driver's side door below the latch, post the AXLE code.

2) Scrap off the axle tubes as much as you can and get the BOM.

3) If they are still there, post the axle tags found bolted onto a cover bolt.

4) Do it old-fashioned way - driveshaft rotation.

24J = Dana 60 rear axle / 4.10 ratio / 5300lbs capacity / open differential. J = With power steering.

ID and BOM on the front axle tells me it was out from an earlier truck.

C8TA = 1968 truck. 603037-1 = 1968/69 F250 3/4 tonner / 4.09 ratio / open differential

First year for disc front brakes on F250 4WD = 1976.

Not sure if they still used the closed knuckle design by then...

In my case, I would opt for a '78/'79 front axle over the earlier ones.

If you are looking for strength, you do not want that low pinion front axle with drum brakes.
Even in a Jeep there are much better axles out there. Matter of fact, just about any other front axle is going to be better and less expensive to build.

That dana 60 rear axle is only a 30 spline axle, and while this can be upgraded by boring the spindles, it is not the best or first choice of many off roaders.
Going "full width" is super cool, but other axles are of superior design and a far better choice for this conversion.

You can build your own rear disc brake conversion for your D60. YOu just need some caliper brackets to bolt up to the axle flange (the ones I make bolt up and do no weld to the tube), then use a chebby front caliper from say a 1980 K20. Buy the rotor for this vehicle as well. KNock the studs out of the hub, and remove the drum. Replace the rum with a rotor, and install the caliper. Viola,,,,,instant disc brakes.

Either way, you might consider a different 3/4 ton axle.

Front Axle: C8TA-DJ = 1968 F250 Dana 44-6CF.

This front driving axle is not original for any 1975 F250, it's been swapped in.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rear Axle 24: Dana 60. But...

All 1973/74 F250's, 1975 F250's before serial number W20,001 = 16 spline axle shafts.

1975 F250's from serial number W20,001, all 1976/79 F250's = 30 spline axle shafts.

Since the front driving axle isn't the original, is the rear axle the original?

1973 and later Dana 60's: The Dana ID tag is bolted to the axle housing to the left of the inspection cover on 2WD's, to the right on 4WD's.

The rectangular ID tag is 2" x 1/2" two bolts are used to retain it.

The ID code will be composed of seven or eight numbers...like these two examples: 603010-1 or 603010-11.

What does the (inspection) cover have to do with the Dana ID tag?

Nothing.

The Ford axle ID tag is under one of the bolts that holds the inspection cover to the housing. Usually...by now...it is missing.
