Is this part restrictive for air flow?

Noticed alot of guys don't have this part connecting on the air cleaner:

Is it somehow restrictive? The hood closes right on the end and only lets a very small crack for air to get through.

PLC7.3 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Some have removed them........but you would then get warm/hot under hood air PULLED into the intake. With the complete thing at least you are getting cooler/cold air ingested. That said, some do put the K&N intake horn assy under hood with the filter behind the headlight area away from the rad air.

I even noticed a difference with the turbo.

And the EGT dropped 100 or 200 degrees depending on the outside air temp.

4" x 10" scoop, positive pressure through the air filter to the turbo at 50 MPH.

what about rain and snow...do you have to put a screen or something over it in the fall and winter?

I really gotta do this redneck mod to the 6.9 cause it smokes quiet a bit in hills, and it bothers me sometimes cause I have no idea what are my EGT's! And it would also help keep it cool, even though I never had a heating problem with it. Problem is, it's a Econoline Van body, so I don't think I have enough room to do this cheap and simple mod.....whaaaaa

I will say there is enough up angle in the pipe that rain is not a problem.

But snow....better take the hose off the air cleaner.
The lighter and fluffier the snow is, the worse it is.
It goes all the way in and forms ice on the filter element, choking the engine.

Check out my galley, built a bigger scoop to replace the OEM, and built a big difflector to drive air up under the hood from the rad area to get very effective ram air. Pics are worth a thousand works, wish I could figure how to quickly up load from the gallery!!

Wow man that looks great! I do love Daves redneck air intake though lol. But still, I'll have to look in the E350 6.9 next year to see if I can rig something up like that in a Van body, cause it's the one that needs it the most!
