Your tech tip/ PM tip of the day

Just finished installing my RAS. Pretty easy, but I learned something that made me a little nervous, and thought I'd pass it on to the rest.

My Haines manual says torque on the leaf-to-axle u-bolt nuts is 185 ft/lbs.

When I removed them, they were probably about 85 ft/lbs!!!

Might want to add this to your PM schedule, to check the torque on these. I can guarantee mine haven't been loosened since the factory built the truck. Not sure if Haines is wrong, or if they loosen up when working, but that's probably not a good place to have nuts loosening up!!!

Never a good thing to have nuts on the loose!

I had a similar one this weekend while replacing the front wheel bearing hubs. I have always used the guzzle site and the toque specs there, but looking in the haines manual for them this time. Bolt that holds the brake calipers on. guzzle 133 ft lbs, haines 85 ft lbs. I went with the guzzle one, as I always do.
