Do you want pictures of the military truck or just a regular F350?

It would have most likley used for transporting parts and personnel around base. I'm over in afghanistan right now, we have three vehicles, a run-down humvee that we brought back to life from the junkyard, a late model ford pickup, which I would be hesitant to call a ranger (size of a ranger but has four full size doors, its a five speed diesel, and the parking brake is just under the right side of the steering column.) And a little John Deere Gator (Six wheel atv). Can't load pics of the vehicles because network restrictions prevent me from going to photobucket... sorry guys, you might like the hummer even though it's a gm product we gave it a good black paintjob with our logo on it, it used to be a heavy duty armored version but we turned it into the truck version for going around base.

I’ve been doing a little research on 1980 to 1986 vintage Ford Pickups in the Military. I can’t find much … I think there may not have been many Fords.

From Wackiwickopedia:

The Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (or CUCV) Program was instituted to provide the United States military with a cheaper Light Utility Vehicle to augment the purpose-built, but expensive, Gama Goats and Humvees then coming into service. It initially provided Dodge D Series and then Chevrolet C/Ks with several military modifications. All were phased out sooner than expected due to their inability to survive the hardships that the purpose built vehicles could endure. The vehicle has five basic configurations; cargo, utility, ambulance, shelter carrier, and chassis. The vehicles were purchased in the late 1970s and early 1980s from Chrysler Corporation, Dodge Division, and in the mid 1980s from General.

If you look up: Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle or CUCV you can see how they were spec’ed out.

Also look up … Light Service Support Vehicle (LSSV)

This page:

CUCV Page

has a LOT of good pictures … but again … they’re all Chevy’s.

This is a list of Military Manuals for CUCV’s …

Very interesting … but GM!

Rangiejan,
Were are you located? If your close to any military bases call the base information number and ask were their DRMO (Department of Re-utilization & Materials Office) Lot is located(or at least get the number and call for directions), formerly known as the PDO ( Property Disposal Office.) They have all the old vehicles and properties the military is recycling. Talk to the guys that work the yard, most are ex-military and have been around and handled these vehicles for years. These folks are a wealth of information on these rigs. They might lead you to an old Motor Pool Sgt. that can give even more info. You won't be able to buy parts there but you can get on the list and go to their public auction to purchase a donor rig if needed.

This is what I got in mind for the 82 F100 4X4 I just got done (re)building:

I know it ain't REALLY what modern Military pickup's look like ... but I like the usefulness of the flat sides ... not to mention that sleeping in the back under the canvas tarp would kinda make it a "go anywhere" TENT!

Add a good steel channel front bumper with a couple of tow hooks and a brush guard ... and canvas on the front seats ...

I like the WWII color scheme ... but I got to admit the flat green or woodland camo pattern might be a bit more practical ... and more realistic looking.
