Friction Modifier

I have a 2000 Ford Expedition with the 5.4, and was wondering where to buy the friction modifier. I could not find it at my local parts stores. Is it a dealer only item or could I order it off the internet. Also how do I know if I need the friction modifer. My truck has the auto 4x4. I am going to use synthetic fluid, which is the correct weight.

I just bought the truck so any extra info would help, Thanks

Open the driver's side door and look for the door tag. Under 'axle' there will be a code.

Use these links to help you decipher what you have:
Ford Door Sticker Decoder .: Articles
or
Ford Axle Code Chart .: Articles

Lastly, the chart doesn't list the 'H6' code on there. If you have that, it's the 9.75 Ford rear w/ 3.73 Limited Slip.

I picked up my rear gear lube (75w/140 synthetic) and a bottle of friction modifier at my local dealer. They gave me wholesale pricing which was a little cheaper than Mobil 1 synthetic so I bought it. You more than likely have an H9 code especially if you have the factory tow package which is 3.55 gears, limited slip. Need synthetic and the modifier. I bought 3 qts and it was not quite enough according to my shop so pick up 4 just to be sure.

I just picked up a bottle at the local Ford dealer for under $6.

Have you bought your fluid yet? If you use Royal Purple it already has the fricition modifier in it ($18/quart and you will need 3 bottles). That's what I used and have had no chatter at all.
