Is this a 3 speed manual transmission? If so...

Did you try moving the two manual control levers on the transmission?

If moving these two levers allows you to get into all four gears, the problem is with the two manual control selector levers at the bottom of the steering column, under the hood.

These two levers have rubber bushings and insulators.

What happens: The rubber bushings harden up, and crack apart, sometimes fall out.

When this occurs, the shift lever binds up.

There is a bushing & insulator kit to fix this problem: C5TZ7343A which is a common occurence on these old trucks.

If this is the problem, I'll give you the sources that have this kit, as Ford just obsoleted it.

1965/79 uses the same bushing kit. 1961/64 is different.

Number Dummy, Can I get those sources from you for a 63 f-100. I am having the same problem. If I don't wiggle the shifter just right, it locks into 1st. Then I have to crawl under the truck and shift it out at the transmission.

Thanks,

Jay
