shorter stock for remington 870?

I need a shorter stock for my remington 870 slug gun. I have no neck and short arms.makes it hard to get a good sight picture through the scope. I looked at the youth model stock, but it is only an inch shorter, from what I can figure I need at least 2 inches shorter. I have the scope pulled back as far as it can go on the mount without touching. thanks for any ideas.

Any decent gunsmith can cut your stock to fit your needs, he will do a better job than your table saw too. There are adjustable recoil/buttpads available too that allow you to change the pull to suit any shooter, check Cabela's.

I have the Knoxx Spec Ops stock on my 870 Tac 2 and its got all the adjustability anyone could ever need.

You will have to switch over to the "pistol grip" as a result, but a nice benefit is that it has unmatched recoil control.....especially if you're feeding your gun a steady diet of slugs!

Their anti-recoil system is not joke! No more bruised shoulders, or loose fillings. It's so good I can shoot 3" slugs through my Tac 2 holding it with one arm.....with ease.

.....(not that I normally do that sort of thing, but just for demonstrative puproses)

I totally agree with both posts!!!!!

Take it from someone that has been down that road.
Measure twice (no, THREE times) and cut once!!!!
My son, Brad, needed a shorter stock and I decided to cut down the stock of his 870. (Please note: I've cut several stocks, and nothing beats a table saw, like a good 'jig'! Once you mess up that buttstock, it's done. Let a QUALIFIED gunsmith cut the stock!!!)
I cut down a 'beater stock' that I picked up at a gunshow, and cut that one, leaving the factory stock. . . . original. When I cut that stock, his LOP was less than 10"!!!! I then fitted a softer recoil pad to it.
He's since outgrown that 'munchkin stock' and is using a little longer stock, with a Limbsaver® pad on it.

As for the SpecOps stock......... absolutely incredible stock!!!!!!!!
I put that on my oldest daughter's 870 that I set up for her. She had never fired a shotgun, until I gave her this one.
She shot box after box of 00B and Slugs with NO ill effects.

Wow, what timing! I just bought a 870 myself, took it home to show the wife how to shoot it and she couldn't shoulder it. Her idea was to just shoot it from waist level at whatever is coming through the door without sighting it. Thanks for the link!

It wouldn't be difficult if your good with tools and detail oriented to do what the gunsmith does yourself. Its easiest if you have some type of edging tool but a steady hand can manage. Using the tool or your steady hand draw a line parallel to the end of the buttstock (not the pad) however shorter you want the stock to be. Once the line is in place you lay masking tape along the line (its easier to see than the line itself and its more durable). Using whatever saw you have around (bandsaw would be ideal but even a handsaw or coping saw will work) cut the excess off leaving around 1/16" left between the cut and the line. Once the cut is made sand the stock down to the line (make sure you use a sanding block otherwise it'll look like hell). Start using a coarse grit to mow through the majority of the work and switch to fine once you get close to your line. You'll probably have to find a new buttpad, and the holes may need to be relocated to screw it on. Simple and cheap. Any questions just ask. Unless the stock in question is synthetic, if thats the case I think I just wasted ten minutes of typing

sorry forgot to mention my stock is synthetic. I am looking into the the knoxx spec ops stock, that looks like it would fit the bill, have to make sure it is legal here in the anti-gun state of il.

Frdbuy8589 is starting off with a positive reputation.
2nd on the knoxx recoil stock. Its nice because your not locked into 2 setting. I found that I like to lengthen the stock in the summer and then come winter time with all the insulated clothing I can shorten it and still handle it
