guage film color

Does anyone know when in 1981 Ford changed the film color from green to red for guages? I hate to take mine out till I get another one, with my luck I will have a clear one! Date of man. 8/81 for my truck.

I added my stuff to Sycostang's "My Attempt at White Gauges" thread, which
Scott has added to a Stickie at the top of this forum (makes it easy to find).

Ah, I think I see what he's talking about... 81-f-150-explorer is certainly the best
one to answer that, I've seen a pic or two of the green circuit films, I think
they're from 1980 only but don't remember for certain. I'll ping 81-f-150-
explorer, maybe he will clarify....

I went ahead and pulled the cluster out and sure enough it was red. Thanks for all of the help.

I'm sorry. there was a total missunderstanding there on my part.

I thought you guys were talking about the guage illumination covers also known as "light film or filters" for the lamps.

I got my threads crossed. :O

For the Cluster Printed circut, (Official name) Green was indeed for 1980 only.

Green printed circut: 1980 only. Number on printed circut begins with EOTF.

Red Printed Circut: 1981-1986. Number on printed circut begins with E1TF.

They are not compatible with each other.

sorry for the confusion.

I was just as confused as you were and was thinking he was talking about the
blue lenses covering the 194 lamps. I think you've posted a pic out here at least
once of a green one but I couldn't find it using the search software provided here.

It's easy to be spoiled by google....

Some times I don't quite get my remarks very clear. Thanks for all the help. I have learned it isn't very hard to tear one of them.

I must be one of the luckiest people in the world. I was talking to a friend about my film woes and a man at a table next to us said," I closed my shop recently and I have about 5 or 6 clusters lying around, if you come get them you can have them." There was 5 and they was out of '81-'84 f150's. How is that for luck?
