300 block changes

While looking for a block, I've noticed three differences so far:

Early 300, dipstick just above the motor mount.

Early 80's, dipstick between oil filter and firewall, in the block.

Late 80's, dipstick in oilpan.

Does anyone know the exact years of these models?

And, WILL ALL THE ACCESSORIES OF A LATE 70'S MODEL BOLT UP TO ANY?

I just put a mid 70's 300 six into my 82 truck. There is some differences as you stated. The 70's block did have the dip stick to the left of the motor mount. I shortened the tube and put a vacuum cap on it and then used the 82 oil pan which has the dip stick in the oil pan. All my accessory barckets worked just fine. Didn't have any problems with alignment of belts or anything.

As far as I know al the bolt holes are the same. Some brackets may vary over the years but all bolt in the same location.

It is getting difficult to find a late 70's block that has not been bored!!

I pulled the head off four 300's this weekend to find one that was stock. But I did find it.
