Yay for new injectors

I dorked around with all day semi serious.

Was waaay easier then people make it sound.
Maybe I'm just talented. who knows.

That stupid box on the air system. On the 94, that sucker is GLUED ON!!
I had to chisel that sucker off there to get the injector out.
Now i gota figure out why its there, cause...
It looks like a vacuum canister. A really useless one at that.

I pulled everything, lubed up the injectors really good and put them all in.

I didn't have anythign small enough to stick in the holes to suck stuff out. so i left the GP's out and threw on the valve covers. (thank god I did) and pulled 1 and 2 relay, and 22 and 9 fuses.
Got confused, then remembered I needed to push the clutch pedal in. (******* me)
I tried just tapping it at first, and it ground some teeth on the flywheel then engaged, and boy did the oil fly. I kept cleaning the inside of the valve cover and redoing till the oil sprayed inside was not much.
Then installed the GP's

I'ma let the motor sit over night, so any oil in there will probably seep down though the rings.
Anyone want to come over and remove my PCM for me so I can install my chip?

Actually, i might be lucky. I think its been removed and a chip has been put in there.

Only screw up i had today, i tried to put the passenger side valve cover on without installing the oil redirector thingies.
Whoops
I had that back bolt on and tight. That one is a bugger, but i figured out its secret.
Actually, the VC's were really easy, honestly.
Getting the back injectors in was a bitch.
That damn ground wire in the back gets in the way all day long.
and the vacuum lines on the drivers side get in the way, plus my new wiring for my gauges, those got in the way also.

So, anyways. I have one more VC bolt.
And, the little tab thing that holds the dip stick tube in place is missing..
Yea. I really have no clue at all where it went.
Looked everywhere.
Guess I'll have to make something. Ug.

Any thoughts before I screw anything up?

DZL JIM is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Why didn't you just swap the injecotrs one at a time like I said?
Lot less mess and faster starts.
Or you like working in he cold now?

Never mind, I re-read your post. You cleared it up for me in the first sentence.

You're a dork...

Well. if I had a clue what I was doing, I probably would have done it that way, honestly.
But. Having no place to set the injectors while I was swapping would make that pretty hard to do. (no work bench near by)
Plus the whole number 8 not coming out.

Man did pulling them things out make a mess.

I think I'ma pull the passenger side valve cover again to look for that metal tab for the dip stick. I don't want too, but I'ma gonna.
If it fell in there, I'm sure it will cause some problems.

I'm thinkin there was a tuner in this truck before. I think that's why my fenderwell is messed up on the drivers side.

I'll find that out later.

Jim you never answered me in that email what causes those rings on the injectors.
I'll post it here for others to see.

Oh FFS!

I'm damn fast at getting the valve cover off.
but, jesus.
I get it off.
Loose one of the top nuts for the dipstick bracket on the floor. cussed about that, coudlnt' find it.
Get the rest of the stuff off. Litterally crawl in the engine lookign for the tab bracket that holds the dipstick to the bracket.
Don't find it. start putting the cover back on. get 2 half inchers in, and something falls off the front. I jump down to find its the other socket which has gone god knows where with the nut I'm missing.

So i jump down off the top, and start looking with the flashlight. check everywhere. can't find it. start loooking up above after I get covered in sand from the rocker pannel dragging on my hair and my shirt. Cuss and swear a bit and dust off, get back under, look up by the spring and see something laying there ilke a piece of tape, move the light closer. its the gosh darned oil tube tab.
Cuss and swear some more cause you cannot find the bolt or the socket still but found the cause of the loss of the tools.

Then stomp off madly into the house to bitch about it online to everyone who doesn't care. (hahaha. ;P) and drink some more coffee and check email.

Yea. I managed to find the socket.
Fell in that small hole by the hood latch.

The nut.
well, .... I dont have one to replace it. I spent an hour trying to get a rusted nut off another one, cause the threads looked close, but it ended up being not the right threads.

And i'm missing a valve cover bolt. But I think that has been missing, and its not my fault.
I should probably make sure those are all tight.

I got that back one on the passenger side down. I can ahve that sucker out in 5 seconds flat!
okay not 5, probably 10.

Using the cordless impact works good. Just break it loose with the wrench and hit it iwth the impact and zoom its out.

I thought I'd make a tool list for everyone wanting to do these things.
So I'll do that later today.
way simple actually.

anyways. cross your fingers nothing breaks.
I'm so worried bout that. haha.

Nah. I'm hiding in the garage with the wood stove just a blastin.

Well, after LOTS of cranking, that sucker started up.

I'm taking it that its supposed to idle pretty rough at first?

the firing sound is a lot noisier now, but I don't have the annoying injector rattle anymore.
I forgot to take of ICP mod too. so I'll probably do that next.

missing bolts= no wueno!!!!!!!! LoL. if it leaks at least you know why though. the tool list is actually not long. the truck should idle rough at first and might take a little longer to start til you have driven it for a bit. i drove mine to work(30 miles) and it still took a slight bit longer to start, but was starting perfect by the time i got it back home after work.
