Im selling my mustang and 65 f 100 to buy gen 1 lightning but i want a 5-speed. What would I need to do to make this happen?

 

Bell, clutch, trans, crossmember, possibly driveshaft work, pedals, clutch set up either cable or hydraulic, shifter set up, speedo drive set up.

Ford truck 5 speeds would be a miserable and short-lived choice, so you are looking at a TKO or T56.

No you can't take a T5 out of a Mustang and expect it to live in this application.

 

I know a T-5 is no good. I was looking at getting the parts from a truck at pull a part.

 

The Mazda 5 speed would have OK ratios for this application, but probably wouldn't last long. The ZF would probably take the power, but really, you want a granny first gear trans in a sport truck?

Go find one to drive and sample the ratio spread and shift quality before you saddle yourself with one.

 

A granny gear isn't neccessary in a single cab/short bed 2wd truck with a 351 and 4.10 gears.

 

You could try to do a toploader 4 speed, but you wont have an overdrive.

 

Personally, I would leave it with the E40D.

hey im new to fords what rear end gear does a 96 ford f150 with the 300 inline 6 have it all stock

 

I'm just curious as to why the T-5 is no good. What other 5 speed options (stock wise not looking to spend a lot of money)? (I have a 76 F-100)

 

does any body know what gear i have in my rear end ive heard i had 4.11 rear end but im not sure it is stock and i think it is a 2.73 which is it

 

I agree. A manual would be more fun but your options leave much to be desired.

Your year Ford F-150 came from the factory with either a 3.08 or 3.55 gear ratio. Look at the paper sticker tag on the inside of your door and read us the axle code. Or, crawl underneath your truck and look for a metal tag on a bolt on your differential cover.
