Performance Battery?

I am at 60,000 miles and will be replacing the batteries before the white stuff starts accumulating...

Just wondering if anyone has tried these batteries in their excursion?

Hawker Drycell Battery

Model

Odyssey PC1700
1175 cranking amp (CA)
930 cold cranking amps (CCA)

at 6.62 x 13.02 x 7.68 inch it is longer than the factory battery

I found online model
PC1700MJT which is about $312.00

The price is steep but it does seem like a quality product.

The other thing is the weight these things are 60lbs each

This is what it showed for mine:

ODYSSEY MODEL 65-PC1750T
Pulse (5-second) Hot Cranking Amps (PHCA) 1750
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) 930
20Hr Nominal Capacity (Ah) 72
Reserve Capacity Minutes 135
Dimensions
L x W X H - Inches 11.80 x 7.20 x 7.40
Weight (lbs) 58

Only 58 pounds, of course I need two. And the dimensions are different.

I know nothing of this battery. I usually rely on Optima.

Pricing was nicer at Summit, only $283.99 and I still need two. Bt there are some local dealers here in town. I may have to go check it out.

Yes Summit racing is where i am looking at ordering from, i don't have a dealer local, unless i pull a road trip in the next couple of weeks and get something along the way.

I just found another review:

i see the one i was looking at is the 1700 MJT model with the metal jacket to withstand heat, which we have plenty of under the hood of the excursion, that model is $312.00

Hey guys, please explain the need for performance batteries....

I always just thought 12 volts & 800 CCA was 12 volts and 800 CCA.....

Understand the quality of a part reason.... but other than that ????

have had 4 years of use out of walmarts and no issues that I can tell....

does it make lites brighter or truck faster or start quicker or ....??

no kidding, curious I am

TIA ! JD

I just bought two Deka Intimidators. The AGM is great for offroading and they have more than adequate CA and CCA. Another thing I liked about the Intimidators was that they were a combination starter/deepcycle battery, which is great for running my winch or air compressor.

I got the two of them for just over $400...

was unable to start my ex on several cold cold days last winter, don't want to be there again this year, so I am replacing the 5yr old battery with something with a little more CCA found in these batteries. I am paying alot more yes, but possibly will see several years more use out of a set of batteries... Will this equal out? probably not, peace of mind at -40c possibly!

It's a battery. I was going to get some Optima yellow tops, until I saw the price. Standard 830cca from advance auto parts x2 have been starting my truck nicely in the coldest of colds and the hottest of hots. They are $87 each. And they'll install them for you, which is really handy if it's 5F out. That advanced guy wasn't having any fun at all!

i have gone through three sets of batteries in the past three years. i had the Optima yellow tops that came with it from the dealer, and they died. i got the cheapest ones from local parts store and they died about a year ago, but i got them replaced under warranty, and the replacement died about a month ago (alternator issues). as far as performance, i couldn't tell much difference. it doesn't get that cold here though. I just know that I have spent $180 in three years on three sets of batteries.

In my Ex, I had been running an Ohio Generators Alternator and that seemed to cure all my woes with my batteries being eaten alive!! I ran a ton of LED Lighting on the truck plus a heavy sound system.

Alternatively I did in the end finally end up tossing in a Kinetik High Current Battery as well after my fourth set of Ford Batteries.

Definetely sound like you had some alternator issues if you gone through that many batteries in that short of time. Hell, I ran 8 red Tops in a Kicker demo Vehicle for 2 years pushing 16K watts and still sold them as good and used. The truck did have two alternators, though.

Ive got two yellow tops and they have fired off with a hitch everytime. if its any consolation, a friend of mine deals in Optima Batteries, and I get them at 125.00 a peice, D34/78 class batteries for our Excursions. I like them because of the three year unlimited replacement and 48 months after the 3 years are prorated.

at about 100k Im still on the 2nd set of batteries, sears platnum "special order only for PSD EX." they have an excellent warranty & sickining CCA. "Optima yellow & red are great for off road racing "no-leaks,extreme vibration resistance" But dont have the CCA.

Yeah mine was running all Zapco DC Competition Series amps and two of their 12" Comp Subs. I still have all the amps and JL Speakers for the Doors etc. Just waiting for the right 05 Ex to replace my old one.
