It's more common than not to have the windshield break do to the airbags. If your windshield didn't break you were lucky.

To the OP, that'll buff right out! Glad to hear you're ok. At least it doesn't look too bad. What happened, maybe we can all learn something?

That was a worse morning than me that is for sure. Looks like the bed is bent to? Or is that frame damage?

Glad that you are ok.

Well, it was raining, I was in the middle lane and there was a slight bend in the road. The back end kicked out and I corrected with the steering wheel but there was no stopping it. It spun around once in the middle of the freeway, then I hit the center median wall at about 50 mph pretty much head on. The airbags popped and the truck bounced off the wall and spun again and came to a rest against the wall facing oncoming traffic.

Oh, and my fresh cup of coffee spilled all over the floor...

I'm actually hoping they don't total it out. But the airbags are blown and looking at how the bed is twisted the frame is probably bent so I'm thinking the insurance company will total it.

It's one hell of a violent bang when those things go off.

I thought if there is not a passenger the airbag is not supposed to go off, no? Maybe that's on newer cars. The truck is an '05.

Thanks. We can all learn that accidents will happen...when the flat bed driver picked me up he told me "You're the third person I hauled from this area today...must be some oil on the road." Uhhh....you think?

Looks like a fixer to me, but I'm just going by pictures. I worked as an insurance adjuster for a number of years. Let us know how it turns out, fixer or not.

Thats why as a glass installer we NEVER let the customer drive away in the vehicle with air bags before the specified time. To early before the adhesive sets and if the air bags go off, they are known to shoot the windshield out of the vehicle.

A lot of newer cars and trucks have weight sensors in the passenger seat that will turn off the passenger air bag if no weight is detected. Unfortunately, the Super Duty (at least through 2006) does not have this feature.

Glad you're OK!

Sounds like you needed some tires before this mishap? (not to pick, just a warning to others)

Just a thought you might want to get checked out by a doc just in case. You might not have a scratch on you but going from 50mph to 0mph can do weird things to the inside of the human body. It is called "myocardial contusion" I guess once your a medic you always think like a medic.

Sucks about the truck. At least you remembered to take pictures at the scene

Tires had less than 5000 miles on them, but yes, shouldn't drive around on bald tires.
